insane to be ripped off because they label it for a trucker.

59 Dollar Garmin from Wal Mart works perfectly.

And your $59 Garmin does not take into consideration any truck attributes.

For that I was curious to see the model. I bet in settings it says trucks but referring to pick-ups.
Over 5 years a go I found a 7" screen GPS from Garmin(800$) and in the setting was the word "trucks". Of course they were talking about pick-ups.

And it also doesn't drive the truck for me, so what is your point?

I can read a #### sign and override the GPS. It is called common sense. Make excuses all you want , and I would too is Rand was giving me free GPS all the time , but We did just fine and dandy before GPS and now that we have it it doesnt take one that wipes your hiney for you to do the job. Idiots are still idiots and drive under bridges with or without the #### thing. Anyone with even a tiny bit of common sense can use a 59 dollar Garmin from Wal Mart and do a great job. Trucker GPS is a rip off and will be forever. GPS is GPS. Have a clue there company fanboy.

To offer a bit of clarity, he technically isn't a "fanboy" - he is an employee. And a truck driver. And he goes well above being an employee regularly to do anything within his scope of influence to help the drivers.

Now, I am a fanboy. Of Rand, PC Miler, Verizon, Asus, ATI, Netflix, HTC, Panasonic TV's, Harley-Davidson, Qwest Global Trucking, Ram Mounting systems, garlic, just about any brand of hot sauce, Boardwalk Empire, Dexter, enchiladas, and vitamins B and D. Again, just clarifying the differences between a fan of something and one who is gainfully employed by one.

And now back to your regularly-scheduled flaming...

I've got a refurbed RM 500. Had it for two months now with no serious issues. Paid $140 at the RM website. Does what I need it to do, which is basic routing and quick and easy tracking of my remaining distance to my destination. It is the truck model, so it has the travel centers, weigh stations, etc. that standard car GPS models do not have.

I don't use it as the gospel...just another reference. Has been good thus far.

You get a lot of new and pre-new drivers coming to TTR to seek answers. They do not learn anything in driving schools and most trainers do not "Train" them. Part of training is learning how to use the MCRA and the gray matter. They do not get that. Most new drivers are gadget savvy. In other words they have their electronic toys. If we as professional drivers steer them to a Car GPS without them really understanding how they can get into trouble by running on non-truck roads or getting stuck at a 12'6" bridge then we as professional drivers have failed them. They can be fined or hurt someone and it will affect their driving career.

If you use a Car GPS along with the knowledge that you have gained from your driving career then yes it will suit your needs since you understand the "rules" of the road for drivers.

Truck GPS no matter who makes them have taken the Car GPS to a new level by trying to keep you on truck legal roads and giving you features that are truck related. What a lot of drivers do not understand, that because you see a truck on the road does not make it a truck legal road. I am talking about side roads off the interstate. Road restrictions are not normally posted.

There are millions of miles of roads. Are the truck GPS's perfect - no. Maps are constantly changing along with truck restrictions.

As stated by many a driver on TTR, the GPS is simply a tool. How you use that tool is up to you the driver.

    Thanks,
    Mark

I like the people that teach others lessons of life. I "wish" I could do it too but there are still tons of things to teach myself before start to teach others.
I LOVE GPS ! It is so helpful to me.
