In the past year I've had 3 Rand Mcnally 710s, the first one I bought must have been a return that pilot sold me. The power plug was defective, so I returned it to the nearest Pilot and got a new one. Worked great for about 6 months, then started having the same power plug problems.

It's not the cords, its the actual unit design that is the problem. The micro usb plug in falls apart, atleast this one did. So I sent it off to have it fixed or replaced, which is a giant hassle. You call RM, then you have to fax your original receipt. Then they send you an email telling you how to ship the unit. So in 7-15 days I got a new unit sent back to me. It was a crappy process but I was happy to have it back.

Now this one has done the same thing, I love the RM maps & features, but if it falls apart its useless to me.
I'll be buying the cobra 7750 plt. Better power plug design! And does the same things for the most part. And I'm not the only person who had had these problems. I have ran into several drivers with this problem, and speaker problems. Sucks because I really loved my 710, but I'm tired of fighting with it.

Well I purchased the Cobra 7750 PLT. last night in Bordentown, NJ. After running with the RM 710 for so long, its taking awhile to get use to. The graphics are a bit of a let down, but I didn't by this thing for graphics.

It has some very nice features that rand dosent have, like speed trap warnings, red light cameras, and many more. But its missing some features that I got very use to having, but also made me a bit lazy out here like having the speed limit posted on the screen. Which is a very bad habit anyways.

Simple fact is that its a good gps, I can still run and operate my day to day travels exactly the same as I did with the RM. I'll give a better review after having this unit a little longer.

Rand McNally has been a good unit with no nonsense and no extra frills to get charged for. It seems to have just the right amount of features that are usefull and the routing is good.

Garmin makes a polished unit. (Dezl) Lots of features, with some features that don't work in truck mode, so spend some time looking at what you want before you buy one as they are pricey. routing is good also.

I have copilot 8 truck on my android. It's been really buggy. The routing can be questionable at times. It wanted me to take I-90 eastbound over a Bridge in Cleveland . :-| It was in "truck mode" at the time.
It has promise but i think it's still a lil rough around the edges, at least the Android version. Alot of people are happy with it on a laptop.

I don't think you could go wrong with either a Rand or Garmin. One is no bs and one has Bling.

I'm thinking about buying a truck GPS in the future. I can't decide between the Garmin 560 or the Rand Mcnally 510. Which one do you think is better?

With 800$ I can buy a laptop plus a routing software with GPS. And a 6 pack.
