from what you all say on here. rand is constantly updating. i've updated copilot ONCE in 4 years. and that was 3 months ago.

as for NON staa routing. WE ALL DRIVE IT. at least, those of us that don't use rand.

copilot uses ANY road that's truck legal. rand only uses staa approved roads.

i bought my license 4 1/2 years ago. and have done nothing but trucking away.
not once have i had any issues. or called tech support. or updated my maps. not ONE phone call what so ever.

if my android dies. i've got plenty of devices to download copilot on.

can't say ANY of that for rand.

you all are thumbing through 50 million of pages of tech support for rand.

i can't find ONE page of support for copilot.

    88 Alpha Thanks this.

I'm on my second Rand McNally, the power cord for the first one got wonky (the mini-usb inside the GPS was loose) and I replaced it with virtually the same one.

It does have free updates, although there are a few roads that have been changed around long since the last update and Gladys still thinks I'm in the woods.

It's mostly useful for finding truck stops in proximity to new customers or when I have 5 hours to go and need to find a rest area or place to take my break in 300 miles. I don't trust her directions in to a lot of customers and always double check against google maps. Google maps is obviously incredibly helpful for scoping out parking lots, customer yards etc.

I have the Trucker Path app on my phone, which is very useful. It shows scales that open/closed and gives availability of parking at all rest areas and truck stops (depending when the last driver updated it). If I could dedicate my phone to being mounted on the dash and running as a GPS I think I would, but I like to be able to be on the phone and still know where I am.

Of course, there's a trusty atlas in the event Internet and satellites are knocked out of the sky, but I haven't needed to pull that out lately since everything in the atlas is in Trucker Path plus a whole bunch more.

save your old cell phone. and you can do what you want while having your currently used activated phone for making calls.

my atlas don't get used either. other then informational purposes. such as phone numbers for states and what not.

RM will route you on Non-STAA routes if you set your truck settings for it. If you set for 53' and 102" wide, then yes you have set a parameter that is now included in looking for your routing. If you decide to drive on Non-STAA routes and you are either 53' long or 102" wide you can get a ticket for OD.

If you set your truck settings for 48' and 96" then now you have set your parameters to Non-STAA. This will now route you on those routes that are Non-STAA, but then again you can get a ticket for OD if you are pulling an STAA trailer.

Just because other trucks are on it, does not mean it is legal to drive on. Each state sets the criteria for its own roads as to what can drive on that road. RM does not set the criteria. RM does go by the criteria to keep you legal as to what the state requirements are. If you have an issue on a road that you think should be truck legal, then take that issue up with the state DOT. If you think a restriction is wrong, let me know and RM will look up and see what is currently showing for that road segment. Maps have been know to have false restrictions and as soon as RM finds them the maps are corrected for the quarterly restriction update.

So, you are saying just because I am providing a service for RM on this website that is a bad thing? DO you see other companies on here providing the same service for over 7 years?

Where else can drivers go to get support after hours and on weekends?

Nope, anybody can choose what they wish to use. I just wish some would quit seeing my presence on TTR as a negative.

I for one don't view you or your activity here as a negative.. Yes, rand could create their own forum or help site but how many would actually participate and how many topics on the various avenues of trucking be allowed and actively pursued? Here the majority is covered.

There are professionals here if you look
