The plastic outside - when I looked at the specs they were the same - but then I'm not super computer savy - so I could have been dupped by the rep... either way it was free with a 2 year contract - did the 5GB for 50$/month.. if because 2 of us are using it we go over, I can boost it to 10, but I don't see us doing that. We don't stream movies - just forums and audio book downloads. Oh and email and banking - but that's once a day type of thing. Figure I'm hoping MOST of our days will be filled with either driving or sleeping - LOL!!

I hope you don't go over either because trust me mine was free too. I just renewed for another 2 yrs. I am on an old plan still so I don't have to worry about going over but they messed up my bill and i was billed for overages around an extra $150 and I wasn't doing anything fancy on the net no downloads or such so I would watch it if I were you

Audio books suck down some bandwidth as well though.

The old Mi-Fi has some better ratings..IMO it was the way to go...time tested...bet the five-spot thing just is cheaper to build.
The pay as you go virgin (slower downloads, but never an overage) seems to be ok...for now I'm just using my droid X smartphone on Verizion, and then my laptop when I can get free/cheap Wi-Fi...
If things get slow, and I get lots free time...I'll have too look into getting a mifi.

I considered forgoing the 3g contract for the laptop, but I am attached to the internet. I plan on running as much as I can, (or as much as the company will let me), but no matter how busy I am, I find an hour or two a day to work/play online. The $50 a month will be worth it when there is no wi-fi, or I'm held up somewhere far from anything for whatever reason.

Another reason why 'we' got the MiFi is that we are teaming it - so while one is driving and the other is 'sleeping' (or at least in the sleeper) we will be able to do things on-line... since we are hoping the truck won't be sitting still much :biggrin_25525:

I also do all my banking and bills online. I trust verizon more than "random wi-fi" spot.

    Lady K Thanks this.
