M1A1 Military flight jacket. Resists water, stops wind, light weight, huge pockets. Drawbacks: ugly OD green and is supposed to be dry cleaned. $30-$45 on line or at the local surplus store.
I've used mine for 2 years of driving. 1 year van hauling for Swift, and 1 year of doing preventative maintenance checks on military base for Ft Lewis. It's like a second skin.
Best Jacket/Coat?

Big Don Thanks this. -
beautiful dog don---does she get to hot in the summer?
-
She is a he, and in a word, YES. He really appreciates the air condition in the house in the summer. If we are going to be out for quite a while, I make sure he has a LOT to drink, and I will spray him down with a squirt bottle from time to time. He really loves to ride in the back of the ATV, summer or winter.

I'm not a trucker yet, but from an offshore winter, lumbermill winter, fishing boat winter, Navy winter viewpoint...I can't beat Carhart.
I ride my bikes in the dead of winter with these and a good Carhart coat and I swear by them....

Best cold weather purchase i have made to date is a set of Insulated overall's from Dickies.com combined with our company provided uniform items like the turtle necks and wind shirts, single digit temps all day are no problem. I personally cant and never drove truck with a coat or jacket on.

Rerun.... Sears has the hooded version of the shirts if you haven't found one yet...

the sales receipts clearly state "work clothing" or "work clothes".....i have bought WORK jackets, coats, even insulated "hoody sweat shirts"
i need NOT be required a uniform from my company to validate my purchases...... my accountant told me, "clothing you would NOT normally wear for going to church or special occasions that are or will be used for work, are tax deductions"....
so that tuxedo or 3 piece suit you'd be wearing for a wedding or anniversary party would NOT BE deductible...
every year with out failure, my accountant puts this into the tax form under "work related expenses", and i get to write those items off....
maybe you ought to get a new accountant, or stop doing your own tax returns, because you are losing money back on a refund......
pens, pencils, calculators, pads, maps, scotch tape, stapler, staples, white out, envelopes, accident camera, photo-copy services, fax services, resume` services, paper clips, shoes, boots, steel toe or not, insulated socks,etc,etc....as long as you keep receipts and it's WORK RELATED, it's a tax deduction.....and believe it or not, sometimes a cb radio, and GPS as well...!!!! nearly anything you would use FOR WORK...NOT PERSONAL USE like going to church, etc,etc......oh yeah, even laundry costs, if done at a laundry or (truck stop, just make up a receipt for it....on average, $2.00 for washing, $2.00 for drying)...i know, i have done this as well....and got it as a deduction....
your tuxedo (and associated accessories), for your friends wedding, is NOT, as you wouldn't normally be wearing one for your job....
but an insulated 'hoodie", or jacket, you WOULD BE......
i know what i have been doing over the years, and i get BACK money each tax time for work related expenses.....sorry to hear if you don't.....
