$5,000 a week cash as a company driver? For 40 hours a week?

    No way

I’ve seen a company driver hit $4,500 a week a couple of times , but it was for 4200 miles , and a lot more than 40 hours .

Well….. congratulations to them. That is ridiculously great for a company driver to make 234,000 a year.

Well it ain’t every week .
He averages about $75k a year

the company only does oversized overweight loads , usually ones that need to get moved in a hurry .

he will have a $4,500 week and then sit at home for a week or two until the company finds another very good paying load .
It’s a shame to see a brand new W-900 sit for two weeks waiting on a good paying load , but the company has been in business for 30 years , so obviously it works for them .

they don’t use any brokered loads and don’t crank the truck for less than $5 a mile for all miles .

they usually run more empty miles than loaded , they usually get $10 a loaded mile or they don’t bother with the load .

    It’s not bad,

They have some slow weeks , where they earn less than a thousand . But they’re home every weekend.
Drivers get paid 20%, usually average about 90 cents a mile averaged over all miles .

some of the oversized loads are a real pain , 1700 miles with a 16 wide and two pilot cars is a real pain.
daylight hours only , every big city has a morning and afternoon curfew . Some of the permits route you off the interstate and down a two lane road etc . Have to stop at every scale house and walk the permit in . gotta be parked 30 minutes before sunset , and you’re gonna need two or three spaces at the truck stop.

    Company has maybe 8 or 10 trucks , maybe 12 .

They have one client that is 99% of their business .
That client is very particular, and does their own background checks on the drivers ,
If you wanna haul cargo that belongs to them .

I also would like to follow that business practice. I know too many drivers who don’t have a license, are on every drug you can imagine, hurt others while driving and have warrants in several states and yet they’re still hauling our freight

This shipper does a background check that includes criminal credit and driving history , not just on the driver , but on the drivers parents , siblings , spouse , and in-laws . If your parents or siblings are criminals or don’t pay their bills , you’re not hauling cargo that belongs to them .
