What barn are you out of???
-

OP, Old Dominion is right across street from NEMF. It's our barn for Philly freight. More P&d than linehaul, but a decent size barn nonetheless. I'd rather be linehaul than p&d, but to each their own.
RookieJ1987 and Texnmidwest Thank this. -
Linehaul is more money by far.RookieJ1987 and Bob Dobalina Thank this.

Not universally.
R&L's city drivers at top pay make more than their linehaul guys.RookieJ1987 and Bob Dobalina Thank this. -
It's all were you live. The barn I am out of get decent miles. And I am also 8th out of 15 on the senorty board so I get good choices of runs every night.

Due to their linehaul "trip pay", right?
I totally believe city drivers work harder and have a harder job in most respects, because I've done both. They are also more prone to work-related injuries wrestling with freight and climbing in and out of trailers all day.
However, the hours are a huge factor. Many drivers refuse to work nights or simply can't deal with day sleeping. There's no way I'd run vampire shift if the pay between city and linehaul at my place was even the same. If city paid more, it would be a no-brainer. I'd definitely be doing P&D.
Even with a HUGE difference in pay, we occasionally will have the whole city board pass on a linehaul opening (home daily, no hotels) and have to hire from the outside. If it paid less I doubt anybody would ever want to do linehaul.
How do they get drivers to run nights if it pays less I wonder?speedyk, Sho Nuff and Pintlehook Thank this. -
Amen. NO WAY I'd run linehaul at night for less money. Happy New Year@Bob Dobalina

No hotels here. We stopped bedding out 5 years ago.
