i just recently moved to the Tallahassee area and it’s become apparent to me that nobody will hire a newbie from Florida.... I had planned to get my cdl through Rhoel or Prime but I’ve called and talked to people and they don’t hire from FL.
It would seem my only options are Stevens and PAM. I talked with a Pam recruiter but after much research on both of these companies, they appear the be the bottom 2 pay wise. I’m talking less than 30cpm for Pam.
I’m not sure what to do here. I could pay for my own cdl but don’t I have to go with a mega anyways to get expirence? Plus I’m not sure id be able to get a job around here. Any advice about trucking in FL or any other Megas that might take me?

You do not have to go to a mega. Maybe @Chinatown will know some decent companies that will hire you.

I suspect the problem isn't that they won't hire from Florida. They won't hire a new driver in the state of Florida because the insurance is so high in the state of Florida for new drivers. If you had a few miles north into Louisiana or Alabama or Georgia more East you probably had better have a better chance. That's just my opinion in two cents worth based on what limited knowledge I have about the trucking industry in Florida.

Pay for your own cdl school, then hire on with a company that reimburses the tuition back to you.
Freymiller - www.drive4freymiller.com - click on "Recent Graduates"
SRT - www.southernref.com - reimburses up to $6000 back to you.
Here's some more that hire Florida new cdl school grads:
Groendyke Transport - purchased McKenzie Tank Lines in Tallahassee.
WEL
MCT Transportation
Milan Supply Chain Solutions
Some of these also have tuition reimbursement.
-
CFI - www.cfidrive.com - hires Florida drivers that live North of Interstate 4.
This company also has their own cdl school. It's a dry van outfit.

Flat Earth Trucker and Dan.S Thank this. -
Megas are not mandatory except for the newbies that will not do any research. There are thousands of trucking companies. Do an internet search of trucking companies and your town. then start making phone calls. If you want a job you're going to have to put some effort into the search.Orlandodriver and haz-matguru Thank this.

May Trucking has a terminal in Pensacola and will reimburse you for school. They are good to start off with.
