Where do you place the laptop that is legal but allows you to look at it without taking eyes off the road. All positions I could think of had me looking over and down.

Yeah. I don't think I would want a laptop cluttering up my area. Even with one of those stands it would be in the way. I'll prolly just get the 710. I just wanted one for a reference, unlike todays trucker I still know how to look at a map. LOL.

Use it mounted on a Jotto Desk between seats since 2001 and never had a problem with numberous DOT inspections over the years.

It is nice to show them Driver's Daily Log on laptop and they don't even question it. Since I added a sticker on both sides.....

android phone with google maps. and you can add layers to show traffic. It has saved my butt many times when the time to destination goes red. It also lets you leave reviews on shippers and receivers.

It does show automobile routes, but you can also call shipper/rcvr and ask for last mile.

I used to use Streets and trips and had it setup to show pilot, flying j, and all the other fuel stations. I also programmed weigh stations and rest areas. The laptop didn't live too well in a heavy duty environment. The USB cord connection broke where the GPS plugged in. :(

I'm not talking about it being illegal to have a laptop running. Just wondering how you mount it so that you are not having to look down to see the map or taking eyes off the road to figure out a fuel stop or rerouting.

But will say that it takes some balls to BS about having an EOBR. I run DDL as well and LEO loves them. Just don't have the set of brass ones you have to make a fake sign for my truck.

    What is fake about it?

It is an electronic and on board and it does record my logged hours. Now if I had included the word that the sharp DOT officer looks for is the word "Automatic" EOBR, then I would not be as the sticker claims because DDL is not "Automatic" as the DOT would perfer the EOBR to be.

My sticker is accurate as stated because the DDL on Laptop is an Electronic On Board Recording Device, it is just not "Automatic" that would be hooked to the truck electronics.
