I have been in both a Freightliner Columbia 70 in sleeper and a Volvo VNL670 and can say the Volvo felt roomier. FYI, I probably would take a Volvo or an International before I looked at a Freightliner. But that is me.
For cabs being as wide as the sleeper go with a Volvo, Western Star, Freightliner, International, or a Sterling. For a cab that is narrower than the sleeper, go with a Pete or a Kenworth.

I say a Volvo 780 would be ideal for a guy that wanted lots of space and a comfortable ride.
The Volvo brand actually handles more like an suv than a heavy duty truck. The turning radius seems to be tighter than its counterparts too.
The only drawback that I have found is if you have a Volvo engine in it. They seem to do very poorly on mpg's.
I drive a 610 model with a Volvo engine and am lucky to get 5 mpg's out of it. Thats hauling freight weighing about 25000 lbs on average from Pa to Ca and back running at a top speed of 70 mph.
I have had older Volvos that would run 75 mph and still make over 6 mpg but then again they had Detroit engines.ndaniels1300 Thanks this. -
Volvo's do ride nice. Too nice for me you can't "feel" the road and they are way to tipsy. But they are smooth.
They are also famous for electrical problems, they are heavy and they are very expensive.ndaniels1300 Thanks this. -
Everytime I had a day off, mine wouldn't be able to start!

I have driven freightliner century and classic xl, International 9400 eagle and bought a volvo 780. I like the volvo 780 best of all for comfort and space. It takes about a week to get used to the airbag suspension in the front, because the truck will lean into the curves which scared the heck out of me until I got comfortable with it. The volvo does ride and drive like a four wheeler. I am much less fatigued after driving a shift in the volvo versus the other makes and models I have driven in the past. My truck is equipped with thw volvo D-16 engine and has 170k mi on it and I have had very good reliability out of it so far. I would recommend either this engine or the Cummins ISX for this truck. For a used volvo I would stay away from the smaller volvo engines D-12 and D-13 because they are too small for OTR and have had problems with the egr and elctronics, but 06 and up volvo has gotten their act together. The freightliners are not insulated very well so they have a lot of road noise. The interior components in a Freightliner are also very cheap and dont fit together well. The drawer in the sleeper always falls open and would drive drive me insane "Freightliner if you are reading this take note". The freightliner is about 2000 lbs lighter than the volvo so you can carry more fuel or freight. The 14 Litre 60 series detroit engine in the Freightliner is both powerful and fuel efficient but the quality is not as good as the newer volvo and cummins engines. The international 9400 eagle was a decent truck but it does not like to go in a straight line. I was always fatigued after making a non-stop concentrated effort to keep that truck between the lines. I also dont like the clutch pedal in this truck because it is a ginormous metal monstrosity. I think this pedal is not as sensitive/controllable as the freightliner and volvo pedals. The rest of the truck is actually pretty nice. The International has about the lowest sticker price of the three brands and volvo is the highest.ndaniels1300 Thanks this.
