Cool, wouldn't that take longer though?

77 South is not near as bad as 77 North when it comes to the climbs. If
you do go 79 to 77 take US19 from Sutton WV to Beckley WV and get on 77 there instead of Charelston

Yeah, that's what I did, both I-79 and US-19 was crazy as hell though...

The thing is that you need to challenge yourself a little bit. After you run these different routes for a couple years, you'll be more comfortable with them. The time you save running roads like you did with US19 ends up saving time on you clock. The time you save can add up and mean an extra load here and there. More $$$.

Yeah, I guess you're right. Maybe after some experienced, I'll be comfortable with the mountains but I don’t think I'll never like them LMAO!!

This is the answer. While it feels more productive to be rolling along the flat ground, one would be hard pressed to increase your average speed enough to shorten the trip time when adding 100+ miles to a trip.

The calculus on this was far different back when we had to creep down big grades in low range. An extreme example, but LA - - > Denver via ABQ made sense in a 300hp 9 speed with no Jake. Barring weather issues, adding 200 miles to that trip is foolish in a modern truck.

it might be..I haven't compared them in a while...When I take a preferred route sometimes it is longer but I don't care if the drive is better
