I welded another nut on the top side to reinforce it. They usually strip after so many uses, double nutting it prevents that and will last a very long time. Let me add, the welded nut I add is on the others side(like a sandwich)

If you slip the strap in the fork starting a few feet from the hook end, you can pull it through and it will mostly straighten itself out. You may have to flip it every now and then while feeding it so it doesn't bind, but once you reach the end you can just start winding and it should stay straight as you roll it up. I used to pull it along my other arm, but it would create static buildup and I would get shocked every time I touched the winder or trailer. Using the winder to straighten the straps, I don't get shocked by static electricity.

I've tried many methods but the Kendyne winder is by far the best I've ever used.

I highly recommend this strap winder if you are willing to spend a bit more for something that will hold up. I had a lot of the cheapo ones break on me. Strap Roller Tools | Azzie enterprises llc
He has them in a fair number of truck stops out there. I also picked up his chain tool which really helps crank down your tire chains and get them tight.sjohnson1097 Thanks this.
