many times when you give a notice, you have told them you no longer wish to work there. sometimes, they tell you to leave now.
sometimes, they keep you out there, nearly never getting you home, nearly forcing you to leave the equipment someplace and then you get dinged with an abandonment.
just find another job, get home on your 34 and call them and say you're done. the worst they can DAC you for is leaving/quitting without notice, big deal.
Best way to quit.

Giving a written 2 weeks notice and the company decided to terminate your employment isn't exactly being fired. They opted not to wait the 2 weeks. Their choice. You already made the decision to leave.
Another issue, former employers can give an honest assessment to future employers. Most employers usually keep a tight lip on providing info. If a former employer gives a negative comment regarding a former employee to a prospective employer, whether that person is hired or not based on such misrepresentation would make them liable.
So telling your new employers I gave my old employers two weeks notice and they terminated employment two days later, if I was sitting accross the desk from you and would shrug my shoulders/ You gave 2 weeks.JudahMourn and NewbieTransport Thank this. -
Trucking as an industry does not have a set notice to give. It's acceptable to just quit and most companies just understand that. If you think the company will let you work out a one week notice I would try it.

And by quit I don't mean abandon a load. Let them you know you need to be routed to where ever they want you to turn the truck in and make sure you get documentation of the condition of the truck.

This is a topic that brings the cynic out in me. The turn over rates with ALL of the mega carriers is large. They really don't care if you give a notice or not. They just don't want you quitting under a load and they want their property returned to a terminal. With most of the carriers if you quit on a Monday by Friday they will have a warm body in the tractor. It simply is what it is.
