Mine must be broke then, when it's on it comes up with 24lbs of boost at times when it's cool out.

First of all maxxforce is a European engine, a bad one at that! they are known as M.A.N here, their engine brake isn't really a Jake, engine braking was never developed here cos we use retarders, I don't think there is much you can do to improve it unfortunately !

I'm not sure if they're the exact same as the engines over there. On their website the maxxforce does use an actual Jake produced by the Jacobs company. It's just not very strong.

I have a 2012 prostar same company as Ethan with 21000 miles and the Jake brake is worthless compaired to my old.Columbia previously I had. I'll look into it as well next time I'm at the dealer.

Hhmm, I was chatting to a guy with the same complaint as you and his maxxforce only had the same engine brake as we get here, basically makes a bit of noise and not much else! Yeah they probably are fitting proper jakes now but how well designed are those engines to take them? What I mean is say CAT and Cummins, Detroit etc are US engines so are designed for jakes I'm not sure how well a euro stove would react to them?

On which part? Going to the dealer? Worthless engine brake or both? LOL if nothing happens I guess like previous post said ill have to adjust to my driving habit to creeping down mountain grades which is fine, its better then being a multi ton missle barreling down it. Maybe has to do with the governing of our truck Idk. Other than the power and engine brake she's a dream to drive and has a lot of perks over my previous truck.

    No it isn't a MAN.
It is a International build with some aid from MAN.

Who BTW aren't using the MEGR platform for obtaining the same levels off pollution.
They will go the DEF-EGR way,as all other brands.

Over here the maxxforce is a CAT block just re-manufactured to navistar. The early maxxforce engines had exhaust brakes or very very poor engine brakes. The '12 and newer have real Jake brakes. They just aren't very good lol

Hopefully if they go that route their engines will get better fuel economy.

The block here for the 11 & 13 ltr engine is a MAN block. The only engine that is a CAT derivative is the 15 ltr. The 07 product had just a butterfly valve. The 2010 product has an actual Jake brake. Also programming can be an issue if your truck has fleet specs and could possibly impact jake performance.
