The receive seems to improve briefly after a transmission, what causes this phenomenon?

It will be quiet out and I'll key up and say something, and right after that I can hear a bunch of stuff that I couldn't before. It only lasts a couple of seconds. Static charge?

Many radios use electrical swtiching which has a problem that sometimes comes out, one of them is the switching on the receive portion and the oscillators needs to come up and stabilize, which causes a millisecond or two of being off frequency, which can sound loud.

I've noticed with various radios in mobile setups, not sure if it's particular to mobile, haven't ran as a base. Old cobras, Galaxy superstar 3900, 959, and currently a Uniden 980.

Often after a transmit I can hear someone talking, not enough to move the meter but clear enough to follow for 5 or 6 words, then the white noise increases/returns and drowns them out.

Maybe it's more of a lul in the static level for a brief period after transmit. Although it isn't consistent it usually happens after a period of inactivity.

I would try to turn the vehicle off to exclude the vehicle itself from the source of noise. Maybe unplug all phone chargers and gps chargers. That would be driving me crazy.
Fortunately, I don't have that issue.

It really does bug. you hear someone talking quite clearly and wonder why you weren't hearing them before.

I've noticed it on various vehicles with various antenna types, was thinking it might be a mobile thing.

Some cobras were marketed with sound tracker which would allow increased reception immediately after transmission. I don't know if it momentarily disabled squelch or increased rf gain but it was a marketing tool they used years ago.

It would be interesting to turn the squelch knob all the way to the right and see if the problem still exists
