Since I have have a blackberry already, I use it as a modem and teather to it via USB. No air card needed.. I think the additional cost is less then $30 a month and no contract!!!

Buy a tether program, pay a one time fee. No $30 per month.

Mine arrived in the mail and it works GREAT! I highly recommend this toy!. I have however noticed that this units power draw does lesson the battery time a bit. I estimate 5%. Just remember you wont always need to use this item to connect to wireless networks. If you can connect without this unit do so. But its nice to have the option if your location offers only weak signals. I guess if you are plugged into AC it wouldn't matter.

I agree! the booster does what it claims it will do. I see a real improvement in the wireless connection with a far greater range and greater number of available connection choices then the laptops internal card. Also because your transmitting as well as receiving radio signal is boosted (power wise) and with the in the open external antenna Its like the router is much closer (electronically) to your computer and as such I do see increased up load and download speeds compared to using the internal card at greater distances. I feel this unit is a good product, useful, and the price is reasonable. I guess now we will see how long the booster lasts under hard and extended usage. I considered getting the additional antenna they offered with the 20 foot cord and suction cup mounted antenna, but after researching these and other antennas available on the market, I found reports regarding some increased signal and packet loss and other interference because of both the cable length as well as poor shielding. There are good quality extended length antennas with proper shielded cables on the market but their price is high, and the cost to benefit ratio didn't seem worth it to me at least for my needs. I am quite satisfied with the directly attachable antenna the booster comes with. (DISCLAIMER) I am not advertising endorsing or selling these listed components or services I receive no benefit by sharing them here, I only list them and review them for myself or other interested drivers that might want to review and use all or some of these components for themselves . All these components are off the shelf bought by me at full retail price for my needs and use only. When possible please shop with the many fine forum sponsors here at Truckers Trucking Forum for your retail over the road and other trucking needs!
