Beware of Road legends lease purchase

Um, well the second one wasn't a lease. I bought it outright from a dealer with help from my local bank.

The first one was roughly $80k on a used Freightliner with around 300k miles.
And that probably sounds pretty steep, BUT if you factor in what you would pay in interest on the same loan, let's say $60k, you're all the sudden in the same ballpark. Not to mention that your chances of financing a used truck with less than a year's experience, are not good.
BUT, my lease experience allowed me to parlay it into a very low interest rate at my local bank.....(I'm thinking around 4.5% while Damlier was asking 18.5%), because I was able to go to my guy and say, "Look, you've got 4 year's worth of credits and debits to my account. You know what I'm capable of making." And he was like, "Yeah. How much do you need?" PLUS, my credit score is well north of 800.

So, look, in my eyes Schneider and it's leasing program are straight up.......if you're willing to work and sacrifice. I ran 10-12 days with 2 days off nonstop for over 5 or 6 years. No excuses, no BS, just saddle up and roll. And I made it.

My favorite memory is of my roommate at leasing orientation. Schneider would give you the first 2 week without having to make a payment in order to help you get on your feet. I asked him where he was going to go. He said he was going to BT to North Carolina (from Green Bay WI) and go to a family reunion and show off his new truck. He asked where I was going. I said Minnesota to make some money.
I don't know if he was successful. But I do know that I was.

I'm planning to write all my assets off as a total loss on my taxes. Reposessing
them would throw me into another tax bracket. However, If I need someone to do sneaky and underhanded stuff ill keep you in mind, right next to @Lonesome .

Well, that's pretty scary. OMG. Not sure what you've made, but your wife was too patient with you, you are one lucky man.

One thing I'm sure is you made pretty good money for Schneider and you still doing it.

At the same time, you would be successful with running your own numbers, no question about that. The big question is why you still don't run them.

 

Honestly, a couple of things.
To begin with, my generation understands the 10 and 2 thing. No questions, no complaints.
Second, probably one of the top 3 reasons I gave up my truck had to do with maintenance. Either no parts or "guess how much we gonna charge you today."
Finally, my wife.
I am blessed to have the most awesome wife in the world. Such that one needs to check oneself, because she won't do it.
Frankly, it's tougher that way.

Maintenance, really?
You are just scared for some reason.

But I think you still have some time to try it.

When I got my lease purchase I was broke and hungry and literally had nothing to lose . I was young and single and working at a slightly above minimum wage job and living in a trailer park for $160 a month .

i worked the first 100 days , without a day off , 16-18-20 hours a day.

I earned enough to pay off the truck in the first six months.

 

I was thinking you can't work more than 14 hours per day, 11 hours driving.
I guess I was wrong.
If you really did that, you put a lot of lives at risk.

 

You can work as many hours you want just cant drive more than 11. Then you need 10 hrs off duty before you can drive again

 

Don't you think he was driving 16-18-20 hours a day for 100 consecutive days?
