When I was with Landstar if you had a major repair they wouldn't loan you money either. You was on your own.

Last I checked neither Mason Dixon or Landstar are lending institutions so why would they?

Independant Owner/Operator means you are financially independant and not relying on the carrier you are leased to to finance YOUR business.

Mason dixon along with universal Have NO customers,Is nobody reading what i am saying? The agents have all the frieght,I have been here one year and as of this writing have not seen one customer from either company and am being told that Mason dixon is having Mass bailouts of O/O's because they are not standing behind them either.I just had an agent tell me they have another load sitting in a dot inspec for tires and Universal will not loan the $4000.00 to the owner to replace them.Agents and owners are not happy with universal's attitude.Independent Owner operator means you have your own authority and financial backing IE;Independent.Owner operator contracted to a Company means you have the resource of the company to continue buiseness which is mutualy Benificial to Both Partys.Without the Resources of the company you are independent True,But then what the hell are you paying them 25% of the load for?Immediate pay? Bull! They are paid within 15 days for loads hauled,if we all had deep pockets we could wait 15 days for pay.Universal and Mason Have cut out over 55% of the Shippers the agents work with if they have not been in Buiseness for more then 2 years and have an A+ rating. That has made it extremley difficult to find frieght that they deem acceptable.Like i said Agents are mad and Owner Ops are mad!

Then I guess YOU and all these agents need to take your toys and go and lay in another sandbox or build your own sandbox to play in.

No body is holding a gun to your or their heads. If you don't like it pack your sh1t and move on. Don't p1zz and moan, be a MAN!

Exactly what is happening here mgfg.Nobody is P1zzing or moaning.I am old school and believe in warning my fellow Driver before they slide off the road.I can remember the day when a truck brokedown on the side of the road and you would see three trucks helping, now you dont even have people hailing on the cb to see if they are allright.Owner operators are dropping like leaves with high fuel, high operational costs.Companys like Universal with their careless attitude are contributing alot to the equation. As long as they have people like you and others you have posted here footing all the bills and doing all the work, then they wont Change.Have you ever read Tom sawyer and the Whitewashed Fence? You are making these Guys Billionaires and they are offering you an apple,That is if you bring your own tree.

sixdogs--your attitude blows me away. You know nothing about me, but assume I was born with a silver spoon in my mouth. Also, why does driving the truck make you more knowledgeable about the industry than me? I own 25 trucks and face the same problems as every o/o except I also have to manage my drivers. The difference between you and I is that I take responsibility for my lot in life and you like to blame others. If Universal is so bad to work for, I think you called them crooks, how do they have 7500 trucks? The agent & o/o model is widespread in the industry...Landstar, Mercer, etc. None of these companies "have the freight" according to you. Not sure what relevance this has. Universal is doing exactly what they said they would do. Their 25% of the revenue is not to provide loans for o/o that can't pay their bills. It is easy for you to say they should loosen their credit standards, you don't get stuck if the customer doesn't pay. Try running a business sometime and you will understand all that goes into it. If you think you can do it better, have at it. If you can't even manage cash flow with one truck, I am not sure how you will do it for more. Why do you sit on here complaining about how the system works, and then lease on to one of these companies? There are lots of options for someone with a CDL and experience. Your attitude is probably what is holding you back, not the evil companies that you work for.

And no, we are not related to PAPE machinery, but we have delivered equipment to them.

Come and sit next to me some day, and find out what I do. Then see if you make the silver spoon comment.

Allright cpape, the silver spoon comment comes from the obivous fact that along the way in your life you had someone behind you to get started.Either your parents or Family footed the bill for you to get an education and a start in life. Some of us have never had those oppurtuinitys.Driving the truck makes me more knowledgeable because i have had to work for the money, didnt have someone say "Here is $250 thousand dollars,go start a Buiseness and see how you do".Im not saying you dont work everyday stressing over drivers and what have you,I am saying that if it doesnt work for you,you will sell your 25 trucks and go play golf everyday,no big deal. For people trying to get started it is more serious. For many years Banks would not touch trucking, nor lending instituitions, you had to know someone or be related to someone. They are still this way.Landstar, mercer, admiral merchants, even malone all have there own customers. All do loan money to O/O if they are a producer and been with them for awhile.Thats the way most of these Buiseness got there start,They had the freight but no power,Why? banks wouldant loan on trucking, enter the owner operator,he hauls the frieght and both make money. How does the O/O get a truck?Usualy by putting up a home or other collateral, banks wont loan on the truck. Then you have guys like me,who with no Home buy what they can afford and then run your butt off and pay for it or upgrade. In the meantime you are helping the carrier to Build a Solid rep and expand his Buiseness. If things go bad, like they have here with over 13000.00 i have put into this truck this year and you need a hand then it was, emphasis on was common for the carrier to loan the money to the O/O to continue doing Buiseness which benifitted both partys.Uni has less then 7500 trucks now between all companys but they do have plenty.Reason is when you go home look at all the trucks around you,Millions, alot of fish to get caught in the net.Only to be spit out after chewed.I lease on to these companys because i am starting out with older equipment, dont have the backing for new stuff.Alot of others do the same. And no cpape there are not LOTS of options for a Cdl holder with 37 years experience. Most companys will not hire you because they want the younger crowd who they can train their way.I have been experiencing this for the last ten years or so.And No i have no DUI or majors anywhere, not even a traffic ticket in the last five years,But still no hire.It is even worse if you were an owner op,they wont touch you.Yes you can go to work for crooked people but what is the use if you never get paid? You never did say what The 25% is for?Office Partys? They have no terminals to speak of,they have no discount programs set up for the owner op like most big companys do other then the fuel at ta or pilot. No repair shops,no tire shops, need i say more?I have run my buiseness for 23 years and when cash is flowing i pay my bills but when things go south i dont have the option of going to the bank and saying hey i need x amount of dollars. Not very many owner ops do.They rely on the carrier. As i said earlier im not saying you dont have stress in your life,we all do,but if i had ever had the resources you started out with i could sit there all day-Piece of cake!

You keep CRYING about OLD SCHOOL and that MASON DIXON have no customers but rely on Agents . What has that got to do with the fact you do not bhave the financial well being to be operating a truck.

Want the resources I started with , old worn out FORD W900 COE and $200.00 , no rich relatives to mouch off either my silver spoon was plastic.

Sixdogs--you really have no idea what you are talking about when it comes to my situation. However, I am not really gaining anything by continuing this discussion. Best of luck to you.
