Should I apologize if my right to use the public roads, for which I do indeed pay taxes, is inconveniencing you?

Cyclists have just as much of a right to be on the roadway as any other
driver or vehicle, except of the interstate system.

Your supposed to interact with a cyclist just like another vehicle meaning
yielding:biggrin_25523: and giving right of way in certain circumstances, that is the law
if you like it or not.

When I'm driving in heavy traffic and wish everyone would just get out of my way, places to go, it's not bicycles that surround me.

What I like is that even the rageaholics will almost always refrain from murdering random strangers with their vehicles. It's not great that a few drivers feel their larger size gives them more rights, but at least most of them aren't killers.

Lots of folks believe all long-distance overland shipping should be done on rails, and that truckers don't belong on the roads. There are many who believe that all truckers are jerks, on the grounds that they saw one being a jerk once.

Let us not generalize at each other.

Professional drivers can't really afford a mistake since it means their career.
Recreational/commuting drivers are the ones who think driving is easy, Ads on TV that promote a car's performance flying around corners as exhilarating and fun doesn't help at all. And those people that spend the cash on those nice cars know they can afford to wreck it and think their time is worth risking dying prematurely by 30 years or more.

I've seen solo bicyclists taking up much of a lane, those guys need to get hit when they're just wasting space and not going somewhere. Drivers that almost hit good bicyclists need to be forced to ride a bicycle on the center of the freeway so they know what it's like. Be careful of some semis though, there are a lot of aggressive drivers in those trucks too and you don't know how many of us are new drivers who still don't know where our truck ends and where the object next to us begins.

Bicycles have the right to be on the roads, but they also have the responsibility to share that road and follow the rules of the road too.

In Madison, WI the bicyclists act like they own the roads, streets, etc even when there are bike paths in place for their use. I have come so close to hitting one with my car because of their stupidity.

I have no problem sharing the road with bicyclists, but expect them to follow the rules too.

Silly cyclist, Bikes are for kids!:biggrin_2559: Seriously though stay off the roads with over 35 mph speed limits. Get on a road with a higher posted limit & your a good canidate for a Darwin award. Also why arent "cyclist" required to have them insured? I know if my ride got scratched from one they would be paying to paint the whole vehicle to make sure it matched, none of this just painting whatever panel they scratched!

I myself ride a Mtn bike in the national & state forest around here almost every weekend, but never on a motorized vehicle area!

Even worse than the two wheeled kind are those 3 wheelers that sit 4 inches of the ground, with just a flag sticking up. One old retarded uhh I mean retired man in our town rides one & one real foggy morn he almost ended up under one of our log trucks. "Was on a 55 mph 4 lane". Then he had the nerve to call & complain about our "inconsiderate" drivers. I just so happen to be in the office & picked up that call, Let's just say I'm sure he got a different reaction from his complaint call than he planned on! Advised him he was lucky twice this morn, one for not becoming a road kill & two that the driver he scared the crap out of kept going!

Also he should have blocked his # before he called, I gladly passed it out to every logging & bucket truck driver I know. Imagine he gets "hows my driving" complaint calls ALOT!

I just say to people, its a pain in the rear to get the blood off the underside of a truck; oh, and I told my missis the reason why I have reverse censers on my car, is so I know when ive reversed into a little kid :p

As a cyclist myself (recumbent) I'll also voice the fact that bicycles have a legal right to use the roadways just as any other vehicle does. They, we, are required to follow the traffic laws the same as any other vehicle, along with a select few that only apply to bicycles.

Bicycles DO NOT belong on the sidewalks. They're called sidewalks for a reason; they are for pedestrians not vehicles.

The law requires a motor vehicle to pass a bicycle just the same as any other vehicle, move over when the lane is clear and pass with a safe distance between you and the bicycle.

Yes, as a trucker I know this can sometimes be a real pain, but just because it's a pain doesn't mean that cyclist has any fewer rights to the road than we do.

And yes, some cyclist as jerks who go out of their way to be in the way. But then some truckers are also jerks. They're in every crowd.

Big Don and mealso Thank this.
