That's winter time talking. You will get it constantly at 10 degrees.
The one thing I remember most of that Old Iron if anything at all is the arthritis in the tractor until you have eased it along about oh.. 20 miles or so. Once she has shaken off the stiffness you can go ahead and open her up, flip the jakes on and everything and get going.

We still have a 1983 FL with 400 Cummins. My Grandad bought the truck new in 1983. Still runs good and is in top notch shape, but is mostly only used for local hauls now. It would make longer hauls fine, but the thing rides like a log wagon, and it’s been that way since new. They don’t call them freight shakers for nothing.
Back around the mid-90s, we put a late model air-ride cutoff on it. It helped the ride a little, but not as much as we had hoped.BoxCarKidd and Dogman22 Thank this. -
Working out of the Cummins into the Freight Shaker subject but you just need some different shims. The type from Home Depot and such for cabinets. Many of the jobs I saw were pop sickle sticks with paper wrapped around them. Done correctly it did a pretty good job on the dash.
Oh you mentioned the ride. That still does nothing for a stack full of spring leaves on a set forward axle. Says something for the Cummins still running. -
i run a bc great motor
