Big Horn Sheep

Interesting also to note the bighorn once numbered in the millions like the bison prior to settlers.

 

You can easily see them during winter in The Black Hills of South Dakota. They come down in winter. They will challenge vehicles. Even race them. They can be contentious, so be cautious.
Can easily see them at the Custer State Park visitors center in winter. They come down for food. Eat the big lawn out front.

 

I spent a good deal of last winter in the Dakotas, I saw no sheep.

 

Of course not. You didn’t go up in the “ Hills”.
They are often at Three corners. That’s on 16, past Mt. Rushmore.
Closest to outside would be the west side of Canyon Lake. That is the West side of Rapid City.
Other than those. You could drop your trailer in Hermosa at flying J. Then bobtail up into the Park from there. Could take your trailer? Keep going and end up in Custer.

 

Up in golden bc you see them a lot.. when I did a weekly run I’d see 4 or 5 a trip .. the stubborn buggers often wouldn’t get off the road

 

Driving along I-84 in Oregon they are often clinging to the steep cliffs, very cool. Saw them up in the Canadian Rockies of BC heading to Alberta many times. Have also seen Rocky Mountain goats down near the roads eating the sweet green grass.

 

There's a bunch of them hanging out near the Virgin River Gorge along I15.

 

That's sheep bullying, or a Wooly Bully.

Sheep bullying is wrong, and is not tolerated in California.
