I got a kick out of the whole deal. There's a price list for things they'll do....right next to a sign that says only keen employees can operate equipment on site. Great strategy. But the soda machine only costs 95 cents....I guess they figured they'd do something to ease pain

I will translate for the "huh" crowd. The 2nd pic. The part on the 4x4 dunnage that looks like the dog bone on an Rgn. If you curl the bucket tighter, the dog one will be closer to the main arm, allowing the whole arm to sit lower to the trailer.

Now you have really confused them.

Where the heck is the dog bone on a rgn? What's a rgn? Regular Goose Neck?

I don't think that I am afraid of heights per se, but one time years ago I was tasked to climb up inside a 100 ton lattice boom crane and unhook the boom from another crane that was needed to get the boom off the ground. Anyway, about half way up the 120' of boom I froze up - could not move- period. I hollered down to the operator of the smaller crane and told him what was going on. He told me to just relax and climb back down, and someone else could go up. At this point I re-emphasized the fact that I COULD NOT MOVE.
After a minute or two of deep breaths I was mad at myself, looked up the middle of the boom, and took off again, at which point I was alright. Managed to get to the top of the boom and cut the smaller crane loose, then climb down. In those days we never thought about tying off for safety.

Since that day I have always been less than comfortable climbing up on things, and the trip that you made on that Case boom would have probably had me on my hands and knees.

I had to climb the boom on my 8 ton stinger crane once. Instead of setting it on the ground first, I was trying to hurry by standing a 30' x 8' tank upright while on the flatbed. I got it stood up but ran out of headroom and the tank spun a bit and was partially off the trailer. So I climbed the boom (already having a fear of heights) to shorten the rigging. At the top, as you did, I FROZE, for about 15 minutes. I know the feeling! Got the tank off and all was well except it took 10 years off my life. Someday I will tell the story about when me and the cranes oiler sat on the headache ball at the same time and the 60 ton conv. crane swung us out over a cliff and down 60' to rig a sailboat on the rocks near Ragged Pt, CA.
