I'm a sissy. I haven't been around too many beams. They look like an ### load of work. The pontoons look like you are would be able to do quite a few deck loads without having to insert the deck. Did you and your brother come up with that idea? Also does a beam save that much weight?cke, Razororange, Ruthless and 1 other person Thank this.
-
Don't your inserts pin differently?cke, Razororange and SAR Thank this.
-
A beam saves some weight but is much better for height and stability on certain loads. Pontoons have been around for a while, some loads they're worth having most they aren't.cke, Razororange, Dye Guardian and 2 others Thank this.
-
I would think they would have less stability. But, again I've only been around a handful and have never loaded or pulled onecke, Razororange and SAR Thank this.

Put a bigger (or any really) RT or wheel loader on a deck then put the same one on a beam and you'll see.cke, PeteyFixAll, Razororange and 2 others Thank this.

That makes sense it will lower the CGcke and Razororange Thank this.

It also takes the Giant bouncy tires out of the equation.cke, PeteyFixAll, Heavy Hammer and 2 others Thank this.

Those big wheel loaders, and haul truck definitely move and bounce going down the road. Kinda reminds me of pulling liquid.passingthru69, cke, Razororange and 1 other person Thank this.

It's horses for courses...I was being a smart ###
Rails are more work, and if your trips aren't of sufficient length to justify the extra then it's probably not the way to go.
I had nothing to do with the design of pontoons, they were around long before me. This 102" set are from Aspen, bought them off a buddy that was selling his trailer a few years back. The 10' set is because for the odd vessel they would be nice, and he salvaged enough T100 over a year or so to build them for free.
I'm waaaay lighter with rail than deck. With 35' of deck I tare in at 78,000, compared to 68,000 with 37' of rail...that's why I said what I did about cantilevers (drop sides) in the other thread...
This is a big reason why a lot of loads are mo stable on a rail...
R/T cranes ride like a race car on a rail, they scare the crap out of me on a deck.Oxbow, passingthru69, cke and 7 others Thank this.
