I should've said we have a blanket permit for overweight and over width that covers those excavators because they have me grossing in mid to high 90,000 .the other pictures of doubles are below 80,000

This fella came thru our area about 10 years ago on his way to Vandenberg AFB. Said he came from Florida. 300' long, 12-14' wide as I remember, Cant remember his gross, but I met the lead driver at the cat dealer before he headed home & he said the load was only 65 tons. some sort of base for a rocket launcher. A big steel box that each gooseneck was pinned to. I could have put that on my 9 axle!! (but not all the way from FL.) Does anyone recognize the truck Co.?? scan0010.jpg scan0011.jpg scan0012.jpg scan0013.jpg scan0014.jpg

637swap.jpg This was at the Cat store in Selma, CA. 1988. It was the 2nd of 4 637Ds I moved that day (on jeep & dolly). My boss was drivin the pilot car. Swapped 2 worn out 37s for 2 new ones. Deadheaded 2 hrs to Kettleman City HazMat Landfill, then 12 hrs hard labor & 3hrs home. 17 hrs that day. Oh, to be 36 yrs old again!!!

Here is an old worn out water wagon. I have hauled scores of these but this is the only pic I have. These ridgid frame type were a little harder to dolly up than the ones that had the scraper draft arms. Some of those had a scraper blade under the front of the tank for scraping the haul road while watering, and most would be able to lift the rear wheels enough to roll in the dolly. Many of these for some reason never had a good parking brake so I always chocked the wheels front & back and of course 1/2 chain. I removed 3" of deck board on the outside of the 2 center rails for a better place to chain. Murray 4 rail 60 ton with 79 Pete & shopbuilt dolly. H2O wagon.jpg 1993 I think.

I have two of those old shop made dolly's and a couple front baskets with big ### ramps sitting in the yard. We used to move 657's on them with a tandem jeep and a single axle booster on the dolly. I swear if those trailers ever come out of the weeds again I'm quitting and getting a job at McDonalds. We used to dolly those big ######## on the ground then run them up the ramps and over the suspension using just the front engine. The problem was I had to get quite a run at it and usually couldn't stop until I was halfway up the neck usually just a foot or two to far then we had to use the winch truck to pull it back. We'd spend a whole day loading and tying down two machines talk about a workhouse sob.

That was the only way to move those in 1 piece back in the day, Homer Mann in the LA area was the first one I saw moving those with a 16 wheel basket dolly with a booster axle. Murray built them for him. Now, you just drive them onto a booster 9 axle & drive away.(in CA) I never got to haul any 57s.
