Hey,
I have this ELD since New Years and I did not use it because I have been getting short haul regular freight within Ontario and Quebec. Now, however, I plan on using it and going into U.S but I am a little nervous.
If you are using Big Road, would you please share how you operate it and the notes you enter from sitting in a truck to border crossing, unloading and finishing off?
There is a video which I have watched but I also would love to hear from a user.
Please and thank you.

I use it. I love it. My recommendations are keep yr entries brief. I haul containers, so the chassis may have different containers in the same day. My entries are "drop trailer" and "pick up trailer". I love how you can change yr reasons and the times. Not sure what else to tell you. So ask me some questions.

It doesn't work well for Canadian split sleeper births (borrows the ruleset from USA Sleeper birth) so if you work with tight deadlines alot that require split sleepers to make your appointments on time this app won't fit the bill. It's geared mainly towards the USA Market.
In general I would give bigroad a failing grade. Data entry is not flexible. It's not good for container work or drop and hook operations or switches. It also has issues stopping the 16H clock when you use split sleeper. The DDVIR section is clunky, inflexible, and immature. The duty status records are calculated in the background but the app will not have any means for you to visually audit how it made those calculations to arrive at your current availability or violations found, the same way ddl for windows does.
Also a Caveat with bigroad is that you don't own the telemetry data you transmit to BigRoad's servers, and that data will forever be behind a paywall. Also if you work for more than one carrier it's difficult to address the way bigroad is setup. You can only attest to one carrier at a time and manual settings changes in the web page settings is required each time you change your company name, unless you're logged in via an invite to another carrier's bigroad account, but then if this is the case you will have even less control in your backoffice over access to this data.
It failed my testing in 2015 when I used it, and I reverted back to drivers daily log for windows pc (not an eobr).
When choosing a vendor make sure there are no signs of vendor lock-in of your data. Data portability should be a key selling point of any solution.
If you are Canadian look for a Canadian company to fulfill an EOBR solution for you. Once again, to reiterate, BigRoad failed testing in real-world situations, at least for me.Last edited: Aug 28, 2018

I've never used it, but I have heard from others that BigRoad has issues with Canadian HOS.
Ironically, BigRoad is a Canadian company... located in Waterloo.
