How old is this filter? I don't think the PO was changing his oil much. Caterpillar black oil filter #2P4005. 20250530_115507.jpg

Probably not very that’s a Donaldson filter branded CAT. It does have the old logo but they are still fairly common in some areas

I have two brand new ones for the 1693 that was in our ‘73 352. They don’t even have p/n numbers on them just the old C. I’m not sure if the early 3406’s used the same filter or not.

Be careful with those online filters. Some are off shore copy cats and one blew the can off.
I was not involved but had to put a yellow one from Cat on a truck that came through here.

Those are Donaldson filters. I will admit I’ve no idea where they are made but they are quality.

There are a lot of filters sold online that are counterfeit.

I just learned that they are also counterfeiting spark plugs. Guy had a misfire at high rpm’s after changing plugs. Ohm’d out the plugs and found one at nearly 90 ohm’s.
    Fake or not?

I read an article in a major magazine 20 years ago about counterfeits. Within days of a new golf club coming out counterfeits were on the market. They were so good that even the company rep could not tell the difference until he cut them open.
For car parts there are so many OEM dealers that sell discounted online. Don't see that with truck parts. Might be restricted by the manufacturer.

Baldwin had a problem awhile back to. We just dealt with some fake Bosch injectors for a Ford 5.4. Side by side looked identical. Came in legit looking Bosch Germany boxes. All they did was dump fuel. We put them in our injector tester and pressure leak down test failed. Stuck wide open. Just on idle spray test they filled the tubes all the way up in under 10 seconds.
