Fisherguy you are just losing what's left of your mind:biggrin_25525::biggrin_25525: I've been so tired that I was saw things that weren't there. The Brain does wierd things when it doesn't get rest like mircosleep. Best thing to do before that happens is to get some:biggrin_25518::biggrin_25518:

No black dog but i did see the edge of a mountain cliff that woke me up and told me to park and go to sleep early in my driving career after 3 days of hard running and almost no sleep. Taught me a lesson i never forgot:yes2557:. No more days/nights like that for me no more. Not worth someone else's or my life.:biggrin_25512:

I have never seen a black dog.... but I have seen little tumbleweed bush people that kept running out into my lane.... About the same time I had gremlins that kept covering up my windsheild so I couldn't see... About that time my buddy that I was following had me pull over and said it would work better if I used the wipers at least once in a while !!!!!

A good test for me is to look down at the lighted dash guages and then back up to the road. If it takes a noticeable amount of time for my eyes to refocus and adjust then it is about time to hang it up.

Little things get harder to process, like when you are going around a curve and there's a green exit sign in the middle of your vision due to the angle, it's hard to tell if the road continues to the left or right of that sign.

All of this is at night of course.

Then there's times when you turn on the interior light to look at the truck stop guide and you can't read or line up ANYTHING.

I use the light from my cell phone. Hit one number to turn the screen white and you can read by it. I hate those blazing bright interior lights. I can't see anything with even one of them on.

    Driving should be effortless.

Back in 2004, I was leading a group of sportscars across country heading to Vegas from Cleveland. We'd been behind the wheel for 16 hours (the other cars had 2 drivers). I had my cruise set on 90 and we're winding down I-15. Had a car blow by us. 20 minutes down the road, we pass that car as he was going 55 mph, struggling to center the car in the lane. He gets aggressive and matches speeds with the 3rd car in my convoy. I had my guys kick it up to 105 and hold. The sleepy car matched speed. I told my guys to watch out as he will wreck at any moment. Sure enough he didnt make the next turn. He got squirrelly and went on a field trip. We dropped speed back to 90 and continued on our way.

One of my guys asked me how did I know he was going to wreck. I explained that this car had passed us 20 minutes ago, but then we catch up and he was having trouble staying in the lane and running a constant speed. If he passed us and we pass him and we are running a constant speed, he's struggling. I knew that if he couldnt average 90, his trying to maintain 105 would be lethal.
