    It's called taking a leave of advances absence. Entirely different than quitting. A two minute phone call communicating the issue is the difference between doing things the right way like a man, and doing things the wrong way, earning the reputation of an unreliable bad employee.

    YOU CAN NOT WALK AWAY IT IS UNPROFESSIONAL AND IMMATURE PERIOD! you could at least have said in a couple seconds "I am having a family issue and will be taking time off effective immediately." How hard is that?

    In practical terms, what is the difference for the company between quitting and taking an immediate leave of absence? They are still left high and dry with no one to cover your position. You aren't helping them at all by doing what you suggest, so I fail to see how it is a morally superior route to take.

    It might help you, but that wasn't what I was taking about.
