Ouh, it is Cat. We did it with DD and Mercedes))))
LOL
CAT ET) no, you can download cal. file only, but not to change it

so you can't go back to stock...we are wanting to get Mr. Haney to work his magic at a later date....but I want everything right before then. That way I can get good baseline mpg numbers. He did this on everyone of the trucks. We have all CATS. Mostly 6NZ. All have it done though.

If you come in for warranty on a Cat and the little blue hose shows any signs of being blocked or tied the claim will be denied.
The waist gated turbo is designed, to give maximum boost at a low RPM, and as the intake boost goes up it bypasses exhaust gasses directly to the exhaust system without going threw the turbo. If you add extra air into the engine that is not needed, you increase the friction HP of the engine with absolutely no benefit. Friction HP is the power it takes to turn the engine at speed, with no fuel used.
Detroit and Mercedes use a speed sensor in the turbo to monitor the shaft speed.
These engine companies have high priced engineers developing these engine to make the HP and torque and live. Then you get someone that knows better and eliminates a system. well if they really knew they would be developing engines not ******* someone else's design.king Q Thanks this. -
What do you think about putting the hoses back on? Play it by ear? Watch EGT's to make sure he didn't bump the fuel up to much when the air gets backed off?
You know there is a reason people like Mr. Haney exist...and do the job they do. They have spent the time...and have the know how. Thats why it costs to have programming done and add performance items. People think its as easy as opening microsoft excel or word and typing up some stuff and clicking and unclicking some boxes and changing some numbers. They do not know or see...or normally care about the R & D that goes into what they do. The physics and math that goes into the changes made.
I agree completely...but that still leaves me with...what to do now...without breaking the bank...and keeping it safe. -
With CAT engines unless he had passwords the only thing he did to add fuel was change the Injector Calibration Codes. This isn't enough of a Hp/fuel change to effect EGTs with the wastegates hooked up and functional on the stock turbos. Install new hoses between the wastegates actuators and compressor covers to allow them to see boost pressure and function properly. As John said it's a waste of fuel and energy trying to build more boost with this modification.
The reason he couldn't do this to the Acert engines is the injectors use files for calibration instead of numbers. CAT did this to keep people from playing with the calibration codes as this guy did in the 6NZ engines. You'll have to pull the valve covers on the 6NZ engines to get the proper trim number of each injector and program them back into the ECM. The drivers may complain about a slight power drop, but they should also notice how much smoother the engine runs also. Tell em tuff #### and get over it, its not their truck -
The only thing your mechanic could have done to your 6NZ's to "add fuel" without a password generator and a hot flash file is to change injector trim codes. With or without the wastegate blocked it isn't going to make any difference power wise. Blocking the wastegate on the MXS is bad because the twin turbos can build more than your head gasket is going to like. An MXS with a modded ECM and the wastegate blocked can easily make close to 100psi. Blocking the wastegate on a 6NZ just spins the already weak stock turbo too fast. Sure it makes more boost but since it's out of its map range the air is hot and not helpful.

Will do...thanks guys. I do remember that he messed with the numbers. He wouldn't let anyone see what he did with these. Everytime he messed with it he kept to himself about what he did. Isn't it true that each injector has its own number? What about 5EK engines? I forgot we have a couple of them also. Are there any he could have messed with besides trim numbers?
-
Just talked to boss...he said the old mech did everything he could through CAT ET to get what he could out of them. Will be checking the injector numbers. He bumped rpm range up also. What would be a good limit for these?

I run a boost controller on 6nz that i can run with a toogle switch. They use them alot on the import cars. and on single turbo 6nz most pressure u might get is 45lbs. and the head can handle that with no problem. with stock turbo.
