A lot of times when someone pulls in forward it's about noise. Either they have a reefer and are being considerate or they are trying to avoid as much sound as they can from other trucks.

As for blocking someone in I can't think of any good reason.

Pretty much the only acceptable reason is if you are out of hours and all the other spots are filled up. Wait for the knock on the sleeper than grab the spot that guy vacates.

The ones I hate the most are those who park on a curb or in front of a scale blocking a couple of empty slots by making them tighter than they need to be.

I go out of my way to not block others in. Couple of months back, I was heading to KS early one morning, stopped at the Bennet rest area east of Denver, it's a weird setup, the RA is on the WB side, when your going EB, you have to cross over to the WB side, the go through the 4-wheeler parking area to cross back around to the truck parking. Some idiot had parked with his trailer completely blocking the turning drive so trucks couldn't circle around. There was no way around him as there was a truck parked on the outside of the area, and there are large boulders to keep you from driving on the grass. I had to beat on his sleeper to wake his ### up and get him to pull forward 100 ft into an empty spot. What an inconsiderate fool.

I run nights so I usually don't have much trouble when parking for breaks.
The drivers that get me steamed are the ones that pull into a rest area and just park in the lane behind the parking spots. I can't count the times I've seen empty spots that can't be used because theres no room to turn into them!
I do admit that I will pull forward at the fuel island to run in and use the facilities and grab something to drink. Running at night, the volume is lower and, frankly, finding a parking spot and backing in to it usually would take longer than the 5 - 10 minutes I would be inside.

It simply boils down to two things: an emergency or a jerk. Today I was desperate. I mean DESPERATE! I pulled in, my trailer wasn't straight, the lot was maybe 1/4 full. I pulled my brakes and almost threw myself behind the curtain. Once finished I straightened my trailer. I don't understand people who won't do a pull up and straighten their trailer. Lazy jerks.

Last week I got blocked in by a jerk who saw that I was pulling out of a dock at a customer we go to 2-3 times a week. He waved at me and motioned then got out and yelled "one minute". I sat..........and sat......and sat. Finally I went into the customer and told one of the guys. By that time the other driver had gone back outside and then as we walked out this donkey's butt had the nerve to yell at me that I was sitting in the dock he needed to drop his trailer in.

I was going to wake up my husband but the guy at the customer jumped his case royally and told him he could apologize or get his truck off their lot. (I bring them cookies and they like me)

Stupid jerk. I wouldn't have still been in the dock if he hadn't blocked me in.

Pulled into a rest stop just south of Corrine UT on 15 and a big ol red kenworth had the whole place blocked. He had left his rear end in the drive and you couldn't pull past him. He of course parked in the 2nd slot. I got out and knocked. no answer.

I knocked again with my tire thumper. He answered. He moved once I told him I had no problem calling the state troopers if he thought he could block me from the rest rooms. I'm a mean woman on this diet. Two other trucks were stacked up behind me in the entrance and one driver got out and was applauding. Men are so funny about a woman having a hissy fit.

Just a helpful suggestion on my part: don't block me from the rest rooms.

i did it once. Was at the TA at exit 7 in new jersey. The one right by the weigh station next to the pilot where if you go in the exit you get STUCK. Forgot which highway ;) ...was very tired, no parking mostly due to dickheads taking up 4 parking places with one truck. I made my own parking place in the middle row in front of the fuel island. got a gentle knock on my door at 5am......answered it, and got "I need to get out. You're blocking me. You need to move the truck". i just said..."OK! I'm sorry." and parked legally...of course, at 5am, there were plenty of parking places.

    guy wasnt too pissy.

one time i was at the pilot in Channahon, IL. One mile north of the drop yard. exit 248 on i55. I slept for the night and went down to the drop yard looking for a trailer. I was bobtailin and parked in that bobtail row. Woke up in the morning, guess what i saw. Some jerk had basically just pulled into the lot and set his break and gone to the sleeper. I figured maybe hes just there for a few mins. Went inside. Came back out. Still tehre. Honked my air horn a few times. No response. Figured out a way to squeeze out though.

there is no excuse for that, ever. Atleast where i parked in NJ was in a row of parking, and i didnt realize i was blockin someone in. But this guy was blocking EVERY SINGEL TRUCK IN THE LOT IN. EVER SINGLE TRUCK. LITERALLY.

reminds me of a swift joke i heard a while back....a swift truck was parked on the shoulder. A cop woke him up and told him he had to move the truck, cant park there. He said "I cant". Cop asked why? "Someone stole my sun visor!" ....cop looked at him funny, and asked..."What the hell does that have to do with moving the truck?" ...."It has the shift pattern on it!"

    hahahaha

    I pull oversize loads.
Being extra long sometimes makes it hard to find parking spots, seeing how my setup does'nt back up real good. I have 3 pivot points.
I try and stay out of peoples way.
Then there are mornings I have to wake somebody up because they are double row parked. Most are nice about it.

Even had drivers ask me will you be here for the night? and can I park here and you just wake me in the morning..
Heck those are the nice ones..

Had a guy blocking us one night at a rest area. Was a night move only with cops.

We treid to wake the guy up.

    Tough sh.. he says.
Find your own way out I'm not moving..

Well he did when the cops told him he had 2 options. Move or get towed with a ticket.
    He moved.
