I'm happy my BP is going down. I'm at 138/88 now but a month ago it was 147/97 I'm 6'3 weigh about 219 but my BMI is about 27 which is considered 20% overweight. Any BMI over 25 is overweight and above 30 is obese.

I'm with Moosetek on this. 140/90 is the numbers. I don't want meds, and you don't need them.
No caffeine for 2 days beforehand, at least.
No salt, try to eliminate salt and processed drinks from your diet completely. Salt is a drug, it makes you crave more. So is sugar, same thing on that poison. (this might be hard if you're already hooked, but you can do it, it's just a matter of the first few days)
Be relaxed, that's good. You can force relax your body with breathing techniques, gentle in, smooth out, as slow as feels good to you. Breathing is a great resource in a lot of situations, actually. Knowing you can make it happen will empower your head to relax and reduce stress as well.
Hydrate yourself thoroughly for a few days prior to testing. Hydration provides cell wall flexibility and reduces blood pressure.
Eat a couple of bananas the night before, and eat one the morning of. The potassium will help lower blood pressure levels.

You can do this. These methods work. Best

Rectal exam? I hope they don't start doing anything like that at Concentra. Yow.

Over 140/90 is an automatic problem. No one time, no come back later. You can re-test that same morning, usually, relax for 15 minutes, do some cleansing breathing if you're close. You get a 3 month card until you come back with corrected blood pressure levels. If you take meds, you get a one year card. I don't know how they check that, maybe it's supposed to be reported by the attending physician?

I just did this stuff myself. I got 142/92 (I'm 72 years old) and while my blood pressure is below guidelines for my age, the DOT doesn't consider age in their profile of "fit to drive a commercial vehicle." So I'm working on it, because: 1. I don't want high blood pressure - I'm the only male left in my family the rest died early of heart failure, and 2. I want a 2 year card for the PITA rule.

Beta Blockers bring it right on down , unless your tubes are clogged and stiff.
See a doctor would be my recommendation.
Maybe want to be careful if already on meds

    • Medications for high blood pressure (Calcium channel blockers) interacts with Magnesium
Magnesium might decrease blood pressure. Taking magnesium with medication for high blood pressure might cause your blood pressure to go too low.
Some medications for high blood pressure include nifedipine (Adalat, Procardia), verapamil (Calan, Isoptin, Verelan), diltiazem (Cardizem), isradipine (DynaCirc), felodipine (Plendil), amlodipine (Norvasc), and others.

Wow, now I dont feel so bad about my BP. 129 / 70. Doc screams at me when it gets to 140. Simplest way to get BP down is stop using salt with your meals. Dont talk when they take the BP, close your eyes and breathe slowly. Imagine yourself someplace comfortable, a good time with the family when you were young. Some special moment when you truly felt awed. Take long full breaths of air and and let it out slowly. You want to get as relaxed as possible.

Give blood the day before your physical. A missing pint will drop you. You can also take diuretics for a couple days ahead of time to get it down. In the end though fix your diet, high BP doesn't get the credit for being as bad as it is.

About an hour before you get your BP checked, eat a banana and drink a 12 oz glass of skim milk, works for me!
