Yeah, especially post accident...I've been in supervision, dispatch, operations, safety & training since 1977 and I have heard every excuse why drivers were not taking their meds. Alot of them retired when the new BP regs were initiated. I take two meds & Lipitor and baby asprin to drive a desk now...and they are working! You can't screw around w/ high BP!

Thanks everybody for the input!...Just need to get a medical release from my doc. to go to my employer and all should be good until my DOT physical next year. I am on meds now...and just above the normal range which totally acceptable! Good luck and Good health to you all!
SJCAXPT Thanks this. -
i tried the bnaby aspirin trick.
didn't work -
the low dose aspirin is to help keep your blood thinned out. that drastically reduces the risk of a DVT (Deep Vein Thrombosis) aka blood clot incident. dehydration has a good bit to do with DVT as well. kill the soft drinks and drink water. truckers and office workers and any profession that has long hours of sitting with hardly any movement is a high risk occupation for DVT. i always try to stop and get out to walk around the truck and stretch every 2 to 3 hours. but we all know that sometimes that just cant be done. but the 2 to 3 hour stretch/walk rule for 5 to 10 minutes at a time might save a life somewhere down the road.
if my statement does not convince you, just google deep vein thrombosis and check the mortality rate. it is almost staggering, not to mention alarming. -
Not a big deal really. I am on meds also. Can only get a 1 year due to taking meds even though my last physical had my BP low enough for a 3 year card.
But change your diet, try and get some walking in when you get a chance. It is hard for me when working especially in the winter to do any walking. Too dang cold outside to do anything muchless go for a walk.bcaudill Thanks this. -
Take aspirin before sleep, eat garlic(no joke here, fresh garlic helps a lot) and you should be just fine within a week or two. Stay away from sub. meds. (once on them, you are hooked and only good thing that comes out of it is cash balance on pharma's bank account)
Even though everybody's body reacts differently to meds and/or natural healing (in which i believe in, unless its a death or life situation), i know for a fact that garlic (don't laugh at me) helps me keep my BP under control. People next to you may not like the smell, but it does wonders just like good old meds such as aspirin or penicillin.

Hey I am worried about something I herd, callled DVT... you can get it from seating for too long. And apparently you can even die from it. Are there any products out there to prevent this from happenning to Truckers??

The minute you were declared to have high blood pressure your currant medical card is null and void you must be recertified and only will ne given a one year card

If you have high BP, it isn't the end of the world (I know for a fact). Do what you can to control it through diet & exercise (yes, I know this for a fact as well because I'm a fatty) and consult with your Dr to monitor it. It really isn't a big deal but does force us to submit to our physicals more often.
I have however spoken to several others who have gotten off their meds and have been given the OK to getting the 2yr physicals.
Good Luck!
