He can have an allergic reaction. Do not give out medical advice about taking meds if you are NOT SURE who can and CANNOT take them.
"consult with your doctor FIRST", is the "usual" approach to such things concerning taking ANY meds. -
Most if not every company will require that you get a new medical card from their approved physicians. Whether you have a valid medical card or not.

High blood pressure is one of the most common medical conditions in the country and especially in truck driving. If you are overweight, you already know that you need to lose the excess weight. So start light exercising. Take a walk. Skip the elevator and climb the stairs. Do some pushups before you eat.
.
Read the labels on everything that comes in a can or a bag. The sodium (salt) content is listed on the label. Make some common sense substitutions. Pepsi instead of Coke. At McDonald's, eat a quarter pounder without cheese instead of a Big Mac. Avoid bacon and also cheese.
.
Try not to stress yourself out about it. Here is a simple breathing exercise. As you breath in count to 3. Hold your breath as you count to 3. Exhale slowly as you count to 6. Hold your breath as you count to 3. Repeat. The key is to exhale twice as long as you inhale. Try to do that while you are waiting to see the doctor. That should help you to relax. -

My suggestion first is to go to a Walgreens or some pharmacy that has a station to check your own bp, before you take much further action. Blood pressure can read high for many reasons. Just because it is high once doesn't mean you actually have high blood pressure. That first doctor was probably not worried about it for that reason and there is no point in getting too worried about it if it is just a few digits above normal. If it is way over normal, then you should see a doctor, but your hiring company isn't going to worry about a few digits above normal.

Your comments about "a few digits above normal" make no sense . The acceptable limit is 140/90 . One digit above that and you are given a temporary card to allow you to get medication to get it at that level or below .Everett Thanks this.
