Who checks oil level? Happens during PM if actually done. At mercy of others and apparently with no other financial assistance.

Unless there's a leak its rare anyone checks oil in diffs or transmissions, its not like oil in a gearbox gets consumed like it does in an engine. Could quite possibly have not even been properly filled when the diff was replaced the first time.

Still, as this appears to be correct. It certainly doesn't help our situation of being held hostage by 3 different companies with either accepting responsibility. And we not able to prove 100% neglect on their part.

So we either pay or not.

Does the below seem reasonable? It's in regards to justifying the additional 1k for hub bearing inspection and cleaning out debris.

Worst case scenario is debris got into the hubs and cause bearing damage or possibly damage to the axle spindles. I do not see that being an issue but we definitely need to remove the hubs to clean out any material that may have made its way there.

That's a little steep IMO. More than likely they'll just pulling the hubs, clean and inspect the bearings, replace if neccessary and re-assemble with a new seal.

I definitely would recommend having the wheel bearings checked being that they share oil with the diff. If it was indeed run low those bearings could be damaged.

Does that truck have drive axle temp gauges on the dash? If so. Do they work? I’m curious as to what a gauge would say in this case. Most have a 300 degree max.

    Siinman Thanks this.

With the spindle (axle half shaft not spindle) dmg, i dont think id risk the bearings, be what? 600$ in parts and known to be good, or at least covered by warranty now...

    Lets see,
    differential is 2500
    Bearings 600 for all 4
Axle half shafts x2 is 500
    Synth gear Lube is 250
    Seals 300

    I get 4150 in parts
Labor at 150 for 15 hrs is 2250
Taxes and shop supplies to top things off, plus theyll charge you a % on parts...

    Not godawful

Too late now but why didn’t you take it to a drivetrain shop ? If on the road, you can google local drivetrain shops.

No axle temp gauges, wish there was so one could notice a potential issue.

Drivetrain shop is a good idea, rear-end is apart so not sure what that would look like but let's find out.
