Why have need of a refresher course when we experience the real thing almost every few days?

A buddy was tooling along at 70mph in a t600 he noticed a big black dog running beside him in door peep glass .. After a few seconds he saw his steer tire going off into the ditch he didn't realize he had lost it due to a snapped spindle .. The truck stayed in the air till he got down to about 15 mph then the bumper hit the pavement ...

    I've been in the simulators.
They are nothing but glorified video games.

I can't see or feel the same way in a game that I do in a truck. It is not realistic at all.
There is no feeling of the road through my feet or hands, except for the fake vibrations in the machine. The vision aspect is totally wrong, including depth perception and general feeling of how fast one is going. The mirrors only provide one set viewpoint, not like when I am driving and can move my perspective by moving my head.
Even the sound and feel of the wind gives me clues, as does the pitch of the road. But there is no way to do that in a video game.

My first simulator session came after I had been driving for about a year. I've been in 2 since then.
They are worthless, as far as I am concerned.

It's the same in a car.
You can't learn to drive a race car by driving in a NASCAR sim game. There are too many things that simply can't be replicated.
And that is from 'experience' as well.
Not from driving an actual race car, but from simply driving in a race-like fashion in some of my personal cars when I was younger.

I could whip the car around corners, sliding sideways to make it, feeling the g's and the traction of the tires. Hearing it as it happens, which is a huge part, by the way.
There is NO WAY to simulate that with current technology.

Tell you what guys, blown steer ain't much compared to blown mega fuse (there is such thing in Volvos). You losing all electric ,engine dies, power steering gone, not even 4 way flashers.Had that happen in cinstruction zone on I 80 past Youngstown but managed to safely coast inbetween backhoes and bulldozers.

So there is a fuse in Volvo's that cut EVERYTHING off?
You must have had one major problem with that truck if something like that blew.

    dca Thanks this.

Probably a main power fuse and a I shift trans that kicks to nuetral causing engine to stop rotating therefore losing power steering . Least in a full standard your engine turns the pump until you pull it out of gear

Thanks. If any of you guys drives Volvo you might want to check if you have that thing.Should be located in a housing right above batteries.
This $15 ,150A fuse may cost you life or couple hundred $$$ if it leave you stranded on a side of the road.
