Due to hearing loss in my right ear I started using Shokz open ear headsets. The fact that it rests on my temporal bone let's me hear since my hearing loss is from ear infections damaging the drum and inner ear bones as a kid. The sound quality isn't as good when it comes to different music's, but it's great on the road so I can have a conversation and still hear anything out of the ordinary.

Yes and No. Volume is good but if you want quality sound and bass, they're not good. If you have some hearing loss, or just want to be able to hear everything going on around you then they're good. Comfort takes some adjusting to, like I said the speaker rests directly on your temporal bone.

Yeah, I'm a talk radio/podcast listener. I'd jump off a bridge before I listened to today's bass-boosted thump junk. I tried them at a few different Love's and loved them. They even work while wearing my ear plugs. They are much lighter and less head warming than the over the ear ear muff type cans. I have tinnitus all of my life and some hearing loss. Bone conduction is awesome and clear.

I do have hearing loss as well. Wanted to mention an app I discovered lately, It is called Petralex. Look for it in your app store. It utilizes the microphone capability, but in a much better way than say google amplifier as the sound quality is far better. After it process the sound in the phone, it streams via bluetooth to your headset. The processing ability of your phone is orders of magnitude higher than the processing ability of a hearing aid, and the speaker and sound processing system of your (quality) headset is also going to be far better than a hearing aid. Another advantage is that you can aim the phone towards what you want to hear for even better sound. I am pretty excited about it, so far the results have been pretty good.

EVERY truck driver will have hearing loss. You spend 8-24 hours per day in a noise environment that is almost at the noise level the OSHA/EPA deem as requiring hearing protection is an employee is in it for 8 hours per day. You work alone. You can increase the volume of the radio, your phone, your headset, etc when you lose hearing. Then you are around non-truckers and they notice you are playing the TV too loud compared to recent times or you never hear the start of a conversation. Since you are alone most of the day at work, if you can't hear something you conclude everyone else is speaking to softly. Hearing loss doesn't come with an email or phone notification. Modern trucks are less noisy than older trucks, but modern trucks are still much louder than other environments. Modern trucks can be quieter than a 1972 Mack and still be loud enough to ruin your hearing because you will be in that running truck 11-14 hours per day, not 8 hours that EPA/OSHA figure and the reefer drivers will be listening to that awful reefer 24 hours per day on many occasions.

If you aren't actively protecting your hearing in trucking you will experience significant hearing loss. Wear hearing protection. Other professional operators in high noise environments protect their hearing because they look at the data not listen to their natural defiance and internal argument generator, like us truck drivers. If your truck radio shows numbers when you adjust the volume knob, note what number you set it at and use the lowest number where you don't have to strain to understand what you are hearing. EVERY TRUCK DRIVER I KNOW screams into their phone even when using a headset. That's a sign of hearing loss and working in a noisy environment. Disagreeing with hearing loss doesn't prevent hearing loss. Think of your hearing as a bucket of water you carry around for your life. Every drop you spill is hearing loss. Obviously you can dump the bucket and lose all of the water in it at one event. You can also splash little bits of water out over your life and have a lot less water when you are 70 than when you were 20. Tons of truck drivers are only in the industry for a short period and they are overwhelmed and confused and their hearing is the last thing they have time to think about. Hearing, like teeth, will go away if you do nothing to keep them.

I wore ear plugs almost every hour of every day I was in trucking. I could hear my truck radio and CB, the phone, Qualcomm, ELD, PrePass, phone, emergency vehicles and many times left them in when I talked to shipper/receivers. They are so used to talking to deaf truck drivers they speak loud enough in the office.

These ear plugs are comfortable enough to wear all day and I even slept in them many nights in the truck or at home when I worked nights. Being foam ear plugs you can roll them as small as you like and you can insert them into your ear canal only as far as you want until you are comfortable. Dip them in a little water or lick them if you have to for a little lubrication. It will greatly increase their comfort. There are many brands claiming to be soft and comfortable. I've tried them. I've only found one brand softer or more comfortable than these Mack Slim-Fit types and those others are no longer made. These are cheap and sold at Amazon, Walmart, many chain grocery stores across the country. Going deaf is not normal. Protect your hearing.

I need to get back the ones I wore in the patch while out working on valves or equipment. They were great to hear the radio but dampened the ambient sounds.

I don't know what type of ear plugs you guys are talking about. How do you listen to the radio with ear plugs in? Don't they block all sound?
