    These ear plugs.

They are also in almost every Walmart and many grocery stores.

I can hear everything. Have you ever driven in rain that is so heavy that the noise of the rain hitting your windshield gets loud enough and you can't hear the radio? The engine, rain, wind noise, other vehicles all make noise. Ear plugs are like sunglasses for your hearing. You don't become blind if you put on sunglasses but wearing sunglasses you can read text on white paper because your pupils are not pinched down so small to keep out the sunlight.

Good point, that seems like a very good practice.

Those type for me do eliminate all sound. @Labrador the ones I used were ones I bought at the gun range. The basics of them were they dampened sounds over a certain decibel threshold, while allowing other sound in. Don't ask me to explain how they work though. If I find them or get another pair will post the name.

You can custom adjust both the comfort and the noise-attenuation of foam earplugs by how tightly you roll them up and by how far you insert them into your ear canal. There are also the silicone putty type ear plugs that can be far more comfortable but they are close to one time use as every bit of dirt on your hand will be on those silicone plugs and they become black from that dirt quickly. Macks, the maker of the one I linked to also make the silicone blob type plugs. Those type are often called swimmer or water block, IIRC.

At max noise blocking the foam ear plugs can block 29-31 dB while most electronic shooting hearing protection may be at 25 dB reduction. Any hearing protection is better than no hearing protection. Any pair that are comfortable and worn regularly is MUCH better than something uncomfortable you won't wear often but which block more noise. Just be careful anything that looks like ear buds or headphones will be assumed to be music ear buds or headphones by law enforcement. Wearing ear buds or headphones on both ears while driving is a ticket in every state I know about.

I want to point out 2 things about sound quality in headsets regardless of wired or wireless. The first one is not as important these days now that Android phones are getting better. The day I retired my Android phone was giving me a lot of problems with my earpiece. These days LG and Samsung have really upped the quality of these devices. Another problem is the amount of cheap junk out there in the way of headsets. You buy junk and junk is what you will get. I learned my lesson about 8 years ago. These days I am using the iPhone with a great headset and the volume can get so loud it hurts my ears.

My Son-in-law introduced me to a product that is mid-priced and seems to work very well. I won't say specifically who makes this headset, but they work fantastic. I am going to 100% agree with post #5. As a driver, unless you keep the device in your shirt pocket the wired headsets are a bit of a PITA.

My only real recommendation is to do some research and ask other people what they are using before you buy some expensive junk!

Thank you. Can you private message me the model of headset your Son in law recommended for you?
