It took me about 6 weeks to get used to it. Now i won't take a 20 minute nap without itJustSonny Thanks this.

I was diagnosed with osa 6 years ago and have been using a cpap machine since that time. I had a little ttrouble getting used to the mask at first but now it is no problem at all as long as i keep it clean if i forget to wash it the oil from my skin gets on it and makes it slide around. i don't even like to take a nap without it. the way I found out that I had it was my wife kept waking me up at night telling me to breath. one thing is that I used to have acid reflux and since i have been using the machine I no longer have trouble wth that. on another note i have been applying for jobs as i will be finishing school next week and I have been up front with all of the companies about my OSA and CPAP use and they have all said that it will not be a problem. I have had a sleep study a little over a year ago, and my machine has the smart card that can be downloaded to show my usage percentage, i think it has to be above 75% and the last time mine was read it was 99% so I should be good to go.

The thing that really gets me mad about these rules Is the only being applied to truck drivers! If you believe in statistics, Over half the country Can be considered obese. When are the social engineers that want to make everyone conform to their standards of normal Going to make your agenda clear and start passing rules on the general population not just truck drivers???
If i am too fat to drive a truck, i must b too fat to drive a car also!!!
The reason they only pick on drivers is only because we don't vote and don't fight back! -
Interesting connection!

You and every truck driver are not the general population. You and I and every driver are in the transportation business along with pilots/train engineers/school bus drivers/ect. I think we should all be held to a higher standard than the general population. Freight will still get moved no matter the rules or the cost. Change with the rules.

Well i agree with your sentiment to a degree, you missed my point. If i am required to lose weight in order to do my job, that i've been doing for the last 15 years and been too fat the whole time, why stop with just truck drivers, pilots, and bus drivers??? Why not anyone who carries a professional license??? Lawyers , doctors, police officers, Barbers, Morticians, etc???
The answer is simple. This experiment in social engineering will start with us. If this garbage is allowed to go through against us, what's to stop the government, who knows better than we do, to enforce this garbage against the general population???
I agree we should be held to a higher standard, i also agree the truck drivers as a group are overweight but just because we are truck drivers we lose the freedom to live our lives the way we want???
I guess i'm just sick and tired Of the government interfering in my life!!! What's really scary is what they might think up after this.
The government is not your friend And they are not here to help you. It's not their job to take care of us! -
I also understand your point of more regs/rules. I don't believe in the Govt. is out to get you or I because we are truck drivers. Much of this is being done because sleep apena is known to cause people to fall asleep. Over weight people are more prone to sleep apnea. It is impossible to look at one over weight person vs another and know who has or don't have it. Hence the rules will paint everyone with the same broad stroke. This is same no matter what laws are passed. Some people can drive 900 miles and be safe. Some can't. If no law was passed everyone would try it.
