I haven't patronized a Pilot in years and have no intentions of becoming a customer now. In my opinion, on the average, Pilot is higher in price on everything they sell, including fuel. Parking is very limited. Think I will continue to avoid Pilot as I have in years gone by.

In at least some cases, I'd say the answer would be "'Cuz she's all I could find!"diesel_weasel Thanks this.

Pilot truck stops-good enough for the time you "forgot" to stop everywhere else.

Most of the Loves I have been in are small but clean not all but most showers are cleaner than pilot /ta/flying j and this is why I fueled at them ...I didnt think it would ever get to this point where 2 major companies would control the fuel market ....Just think what can happen now

I think All the major truck stops chains are the same, smelly pits and could care less about drivers. I have always found Flying J to be the worst overall and have the most rude, uncaring employees, but TA, Petro and Pilot aren't much better.
I find the employees at Loves to be at least somewhat friendly, courteous, and willing to help people out.
Seems like all truck stops these days, either national chains or mom and pop stops, don't have the money, time, effort or just don't care about providing adequate parking for trucks or fixing the grand canyon sized potholes. Most parking lots (unless its a brand new truck stop) that I see look like someone's been tossing hand grenades around for a few days.
Last year I fueled and showered at the Flying J in Ardmore, OK. After waiting incredibly too long for a shower, My stomach was growling and I decided I would lower my standards and try to stomach Flying J food that night. Well I walked into the restaurant and wouldn't you know it every table and booth in the place was filthy and had dirty dishes that no one was bothering to pick up. They must not have been that busy either considering two of the elephant waitresses and the buffalo looking cashier had plenty of time to shoot the breeze.
So approximately 3 or 4 other people including myself walked in and just stood there in DISGUST at the mess, and that fact that no one was bothering to clean it up. Finally we had enough waiting and proceeded to walk out. One of the waitresses finally said "Oh, I can wipe off some tables if you want to sit down, and I said "why aren't the tables clean to begin with"? She seemed indifferent to the fact that the Health Department would have a field day with this place. One of us (not me) proceeded to scream at them and really let them have it, Finally the manager came over there to see what the problem was. He got them to go to work and offered us all free meals and thankfully, none of us accepted.
Anyone ever notice Flying J had the most salt-laden, crappy food known to man? Even compared to most of the other filthy chains? Anyone who eats here should now know what it feels like to be diabetic. After eating there I would literally pee non-stop for 2 or 3 hours as my body attempted to flush the filth from my system. Also Flying J has the most disgusting coffee there is on the face of the earth.
This is one reason I ate so much fast food on the road. At least I knew what I was getting... -
JRlMicheal $10 per person for a shower is the norm the last time I looked. I have a question for you. Don't you and your co-driver have a Pilot "Reward" Card with showers on it. Most of the Pilots I've been to give out free showers if 50 or more gallons are bought. As matter of fact most of the T/S's have a "reward" card of some sort. The majority of T/S's only make 5 to 7 cents a gallon regardless if its a chain T/S or a Mom and Pop one. The mid-sized to megacarriers discount is only 3 or 4 cents, but the volume they buy makes up the difference. Where any T/S makes the majority of their money is from the inside and shop if they have one. When I spend the night at a Pilot its usually because its the nearest T/S to where I'm delivering or picking up a load. I've been known to fuel at a Pilot and then go spend the night somewhere else.

wow so many things wrong with that quote.

I have never fueled at a Pilot nor will I unless for some reason I ever have no choice.
I used to buy all of my fuel at Flying J's but the last few years the service has gotten so poor and the place has been so generally filthy that I have been fueling elsewhere just to avoid the aggravation.
Now that Pilot has decided to make a crappy place even worse...I'll just quietly stop fueling there altogether, I'm not gonna boycott or make a fuss about it other than the letter that I sent to Flying J telling them that I will no longer fuel there and why.
I know that Fying J/Pilot couldn't care less if I fuel there or not but I'm not gonna spend my money anywhere that so blatantly slaps the face of the customer base that they built their company on.
I have the luxury of fueling where I want to unlike some of the company hands that are just stuck with what they're told to do.
I'm not too much of an activist when it comes to boycotts and strikes and all the other stuff that drivers seem to like to make noise about but never really do anything about.
I just speak with my pocketbook and go elsewhere.
I've noticed that more and more O/O's are starting to ignore Flying J/Pilot and eventually it may make a difference...Or not!
But at least they won't be getting MY money and that's enough for me.ky wildcat 4ever, Boardhauler and GuysLady Thank this. -
This one's easy People. Have one driver pay the required $10 fee while the 2nd driver lurks in the shadows. After the first driver finishes his shower, he leaves the door open for the 2nd driver to slip in and clean up. Only problem is the 2nd driver has to use the first drivers towel, unless he has his own.

I would expect to squeeze every possible cent out of every driver possible.papa1953 Thanks this.
