The $400 is a security deposit on the truck. It's no different than a security deposit on a house or apt. When you leave their employ, you get it back as long as your truck is clean and in good repair. Why should they have to eat the cost of cleaning a nasty truck when you have incentive to return it clean?

Ok I stand corrected. It was stated in the one post above that at orientation you are told the money is put in an escrow account. My bad. I have learned many, many companies don't have deposits. They screen and hire drivers they believe won't tear up their equipment or leave it nasty. That is not a knock on the drivers at Boyd, but on the company. They don't need to hold your $$.
As far as the apartment reference, I actually just moved into one and had 0 deposit.TruckDuo Thanks this. -
I am just going by how my bf explained it to me. I can understand the deposit since they do hire students right out of school. If they didn't then it might make less sense. Also since I used to detail trucks I have seen some pretty nasty trucks including a few that I charged $400+ due to how bad they were.sevenmph Thanks this.

MY dispatch DID NOT contact me or return my phone calls for days on end. When I did contact higher ups and request a new dispatch I was told that I had to keep the one I had. About loads...not true!! I communicated every time I was supposed to and when stranded with no work, the only people I was contacted by was maintenance and of course NO LOADS!! My dispatch was never available and would send us text messages or emails saying she was "working from home" and was not available for contact...with her apologies of course!!. I know all about the charges on my check...the ones that were authorized that is!! I am a well educated person and can understand and speak English fluently! The charges that were removed from my payroll were unauthorized and mostly on the account of my dispatch covering her ###. I am seeking legal counsel and I do have a case according to my attorney! I noticed you are located in Alabama and know a tremendous amount about Boyd Brothers so called policies?? Makes me wonder if you are an employee since they are based in Birmingham...

That way they already have your money and make intrest off your money ......another lovely self serving policy
TruckDuo Thanks this. -
Companies don't have to hold escrow out of your check. If you return a dirty truck they can't take it from your last check. Boyd's policy sounds to me like a scam.
sevenmph and suicidejockey22001 Thank this. -
they also charge the driver for every 2 in strap they own they buy it with his money not the companies money. they have a sign on bonus but after you buy the equipment they require you to have, the bonus is spent.
-
Oh that's nice. Here's a a sign on bonus. Now give it back for this equipment we should be paying for we make the driver buy it. Beautiful!
Companies y hat keep finding ways to get in a driver's pocket. -
If I'm not mistaken Boyd is not the only company that requires you to buy equipment from them. What I find amusing about some of these complaints is the fact you are told about them from the start. I could be wrong but I recall my bf telling me about all this stuff during his initial orientation. As for buying the equipment, I agree with another post on this forum. If you buy it, you'll take better care of it.

You shouldn't have to be buying anything other than your ppe.
VaGump, sevenmph and suicidejockey22001 Thank this.
