6 Years ago I drove for Quality Carriers out of Barberton, Ohio. I was hauling chemical peroxide, all of our ppe equipment was provided by the company at no charge to the driver.

FYI - Roehl requires drivers (dry van, at least) to fund a deposit of $180 that covers a kingpin lock, trailer door lock, cuff for air brake knobs and 4 van straps. Payroll deducts $10 a week for 18 weeks to pay it out. The money is refunded when the items are returned at the end of the driver's employment.

Boyd's truck deposit is done as a $20 a week deduction. I can't remember for sure but I think his equipment was a deduction also but I could be wrong.

Drivers keep letting those companies into their pockets......sevenmph Thanks this.

Congratulations! You're 100% wrong.
My company issues every tanker driver a hard hat with face shield, goggles, chemical and leather gloves, Gore-Tex jacket and pants, full rain suits (pants and jacket), rubber boots and safety glasses at no charge. PPE is replaced when broken or worn out at no charge.
Company gives a $150.00 dollar boot voucher every year. If your boots are worn out before the year is up, you are given another voucher after providing proof that your boots are worn out.
Company provides uniforms (11). This includes pants and shirts. A laundry service washes them each week.
Company also provides misc items like pens, paper, clipboards, calculators etc. Anything you need to do the job.
I don't think you have ever worked for a good company? Just an observation.RERM, sevenmph, suicidejockey22001 and 3 others Thank this. -
Do you get interest on that 400. If and when you get it back? A company driver should not have to pay squat to perform services for and at the direction of the company. If said company is worried about theft and damages, then maybe they need to be more picky about who they hire. Cost of doing business should not be subsidized by employees. And I bet the office staff don't have to pay a deposit in case they damaage a computer or copier. Amazing that drivers stand up for outfits like this and sign up to get in line to get rolled.

What works for some doesn't work for others. While many of you might think Boyd is a crap company we think otherwise. I'm sure many of their multi million milers feel the same way we do. I'm sure several of you saying how bad their policies are have people out there saying that your companies are bad also. I'm dropping out of this thread because I only have my thoughts and such as a family member not a driver. So bash away as you see fit. Just remember that not everyone can join what you feel is a perfect company especially fresh out of driving school. Good luck and safe travels to all.

Driver's Girl this isn't a bashing of Boyd. I'm sure by what you say it works for you and your bf. It did however turn into a bashing of their one policy. There are many companies f ping the same thing. They are getting drivers to pay the company's cost of doing business. His dispatcher doesn't buy his/her pens, pencils, sticky notes, computer etc. Do you know why? Because nobody would work for them. The reason the drivers pay for theirs is the drivers line up and let the company get away with it. Now I don't run anything that requires special equipment., but I also do not pay for anything including .25 for a copy. Good luck to you and your bf.

There is no good OTR company, Only degrees of bad. No OTR carrier wants drivers to be treated like a real employee. I see no one at the ATA lobbying for drivers to be covered under the FLSA. Wages down 18%, Working conditions worse every year, and untold millions spent on lawyers fees to keep driivers frrom getting paid what they are owed. While they bilk drivers for hard hats and truck washes and charge deposits on company employees.

Out of curiosity, how much interest is earned on $400 in a year?
