I'm 55 yrs. old and going to orientation in 2-3 wks. 1st job after school. My family has a history of hypertension. I did a 132/80 for med. card for CDL. Went to th doc for an earache the other day and did a 141/94. I think I'm borderline just depends on the day. Should I seek help from a doc and possible meds. to lower BP before traveling all the way to orientation? Will taking a pill for BP control cause trouble at orientation physical? Just don't want to be sent away. I need to start working again and this is a pretty good starting company. Thanks in advance for any sage words of advice.

It's a good idea to get on Lisinopril 10 mg. I was like you, border line. Now I'm 128/75. Like a trained athelete :)

The next physical they might limit you to yearly physicals to keep a closer eye. But your body would be better off with the lower BP.

I'm lucky. 5mg of Lisinipril does the trick for me!

5mg of Lisinopril used to do it for me, now I'm on 10mg and my BP stays around 120/75.
I would go to the doc and have him prescribe something before going to orientation. If you blip over 140/90 they might send you home.

Thanks for the responses. Guess I'll have to ask about that stuff. Any side effects? Can you stop taking it after losing a little weight and if the BP stays down low enough?

Has the Doc been able to diagnose WHY your BP is going high? That is the critical question. There may be an unknown underlying cause sitting like a time bomb.

No side effects for me except for a tingling throat sometimes. I blame it on the cigarettes and my doctor said that's a side effect of Lisinopril?
The key is regular BP monitoring. Weight has an effect on BP, so does a family history of hypertension. Narrowing arteries or even partially clogged arteries can raise your BP. Maybe it's time for an EKG too.

When you start trucking, you'll have a hard time losing weight. Healthy food access is slim unless you bring it with you. Try to stay ahead of the game. Many fall into the trap of fast food, twinkees and lack of excercise. When you work all hours of the changing clock, many days you will be too tired to do anything.

I would go to orientation with BP dope, better to have it controlled that way than have a high reading.,my lisinopril is 40mg,-is that right?-yup,but anyway,I am 99% positive if on any of that stuff, the card will only be good for a year,in fact,if you wanna look it up after I thought about it,it is in the little pocket rulebook you are sure to receive in orientation..
