Brake chambers..

    Sorry for old thread but just confirming

    If you have air leaking out whilst handbrake is off, but no brakes applied that's on the non serviceable side.

    If you have no leaks with handbrake off, but it leaks air whilst pressing the foot brake, that's when you can simply change the diaphram

    Also is there much difference between the cheap cans and the expensive ones? Here is Australia they range from about $80 to $200, do you think it's better to replace the diaphram only or just whack on a cheap can? I have changed full cans before but never done a diaphram. Thanks

    You are correct.

    Cheap brake chambers don’t last up here in the rust belt. So the difference in quality is noticeable. Just not on the outside.

    I am a firm believer in keeping brake parts match on an axle. I have had difficulty in the past getting piggybacks, clamps to line up and seal correct between makes. The safe bet for me is to replace with completes. That said a spare diaphragm can get you home.
