I've been told twice now by 2 separate drivers some are mandatory . Like running a scale house if you don't. That's why I asked here. Half what people say out there is BS. But the last guy did mention I-5 siskyou mountains and that California will ask to see if you stopped on electronic logs.

Rt 40 west from i68 keysers ridge -mountain before uniontown pa has brake check at top, 10mph speed for trucks and brake check stop 3/4 of the way down and smokey bear has been there quite a few times checking trucks.

Never been through any mountains myself (yet) but my first reaction would be to stop, let them cool off (assuming I wasn't just using the Jake's) and do a six-pack.
In Canada, you'll get a ticket for blowing a brake check, regardless of weight or truck. -

You stop, wait a minute or two and go. -
I get out and make sure nothing is smoking. And properly adjusted. And all that jazz. THAT'S a brake check. Not just making sure you can stop. But hey. We're the lazy generation these days.spyder7723 Thanks this.
