Something I've been wondering. I don't watch a lot of You Tube Videos. But I have been watching some just for some advanced info before CDL school. On all the downgrade videos I see. The driver in the TT recording the video seems to always be obeying the posted recommended limits. But every, and I mean every, even a school bus, other TT just seems to fly by the driver at sometimes up to twice as fast it seems. Are there truly that many bad drivers out there, or is that "limit" overly low?

The lighter your equipment/load, the faster you can safely go on a downgrade. Also, some trucks have a more powerful jake brake than others.

The last time most of the "drivers" have done a proper brake check was during their CDL skills test. When's the last time you even heard a driver fanning the brake system down to check their brakes?

Ive always stopped and checked the brakes. Never had a problem with my 2008 Columbia.....bare bones but never had any major issues except for a new alternator.

When going downhill I always go under by a minimum of 5 mph. If I am heavy I will go down even slower. I stay in the right hand lane and don't care if other trucks pass me. You go down what you are comfortable with, but remember you can only go down to fast one time.
