I just got 8 Webb Vortex from MHC. They were having trouble getting Chinese drums, but US made were in stock, and actually cheaper.

like 80 bucks skids of them in my area
-
Are you looking for some kind of special brake drum or something? Rather than the standard cast drum?
-
Drive axle and trailer drums take a long time to turn. Other than cutting the lip off the outside of the drum in some cases it just not worth it.
Run them to the maximum reuse spec, often 16.620 I thank, and replace them.
It has an electric motor on the opposite side of the cutter tip with a grind stone. That will work through the hot spots. Unless you have something like old Ford or Dodge drums ,that do not exist any more, it is just not worth it.
I can be a real cheap guy but will not even turn my own.JoeyJunk, spsauerland, AModelCat and 1 other person Thank this. -
I was asking about places in my area that still turn drums. I have a pallet of drums in the shop, and I can get many pallets more. I was asked about having drums turned from a person in my area. I'm sure other areas have more stock , but those places might not have thousands of units running around with 11 axles on the ground either. The local Kenworth dealer quoted me the only drums they had in stock at $208 walk in price. That is why I was asked the question.
-
I understand what you asked in the first question. The answer is no.
Drums have been available as others have said in their area. Just have to pay more than desired at times.
I would want a $100 a drum to turn them to 90 - 95% true. Those big old drums distort so bad it becomes a judgement call. How much meat am I willing to sacrifice in order to true the last 5 - 10%.
For $4,000.00 you can own this machine and corner the market.Diesel Dave, JoeyJunk and AModelCat Thank this. -
I'm not into cornering the market. I remember days past of dragging drums to Bay City to have them turned. I also remember Dayton hubs and pulling duals off all together. I haven't even been cleaning newish drums from a seal out. I got one lead for my question asking guy. That lead is from the most expensive place around, but if you can't get any later in our spiral to third world life it will be good.

Spend 80-100$ to turn a 150$ drum? Nah. Here's my quote from the other day
-
I only ran centrifuge drums. Never had to turn one. My 2014 has rotor/disc brakes. Still learning about these.
BoxCarKidd Thanks this. -
Still learning about that rotor/disc set up myself.Diesel Dave Thanks this.
