Where does it say you have to be certified?
It sez QUALIFIED... and I'm qualified based on 38 years of experience doing my own maintenance in my own shop.dino6960 Thanks this. -
I've heard this from every truckstop lawyer sitting at most resturant counters, but have never had a D.O.T. officer tell me this. I had a D.O.T. man come to my place for an audit when we got to my annual inspection he asked who's signature was on the sticker I told him it was mine, he looked at me and ask if I was qualified to sign it, and I said according to that little green book you keep quoting I am, it states that I must be knowledgeable of all aspects and working parts of the vehicle. I've been driving and working on these things for 40 yrs. I can take it apart and put each piece back and i.d. it. I'm not saying I'm right but adjust brakes at top of mountains, scales, & truckstops, and have never had a problem. Diesel Bear, how about it?

where can I find online the certificate ?
-
had a trailer brake out at a scale last year, had to sit there till someone from the shop came to adjust them. i could have adjusted them, but couldn't sign the paper showing certification.
-
You should have a card saying you are qualified to do adjustments.
I went to Fanshawe in London for a several hour course. I got a wallet card plus paper document.
This is for Manual slacks only. for auto slacks you must hold a mechanics license.
And everything '94 or newer comes off of assembly with auto slacks. -
as long as you passed the air brake portion of your CDL test and dont have an air brake restriction on your license then you're qualified/certified.. the LittleGreenBook says it "Part 396.25 paragraph (i)". I'm pretty sure there's a form O/O can download and print out and sign and keep with them so they could avoid the hassle. -
as I read the article I take from it you have to have certification. cause it says the employer has to keep on file proof of your training & certification.
-
Heres my problem with this, when you take the cdl test (writen) this is certifiying you that you have general knowledge of air brake, thus you have a endorsment of air brakes to show that your capable of adjusting your brakes! now they want to play the game of being a certifed mechanic
Thus costing a driver time and extra money that realy shouldnt be spent.....now on the flip side, the drivers mills are pumping out drivers that can do the writen brake test......and any drive that dont know how or have somekind of tools on his truck to do this.......shouldnt be driveing in my eyes....this is a catch 22, dont get me wrong the gooberment aint on our side......but look at you license and see if you have a air brake endorsment
-
I do not quite follow you.
"when you take the cdl test (writen) this is certifiying you that you have general knowledge of air brake, thus you have a endorsment of air brakes to show that your capable of adjusting your brakes"
Not true in Ontario. You can not adjust your own brakes just 'cuz you have air brake endorsment.
And yes, I do have air brake endorsment
