I don't care for the automatic slacks.

After reading all this it just makes me wonder? I've never been questioned when I went to adjust brakes. Now its only happened twice, once on my tractor(steering brake) and once on a trailer(rail chassis), but DOT just told me to adjust it. NOw maybe with my name being on the registration of the truck thats why he never questioned weither I could do it or not?

Just got to thinking (dangerous) the next brake job I do, when I get it all buttoned up do I now have to call someone with a card to adjust them before I back it out of the garage? I know most every mechanic in my area and the only ones I know who might possibly have a card or any sort of certification are the CD Rom brainwashed ones at the big boys shops, the rest only have a head full of sense and a box of wrenches, maybe as I get older I'll figure it out.

ya mean the "Good Ideal Fairy" is running wild in the trucking industy also? Thought she was military only, didn't know she had a CDL too.

Oh yeah, in my search to find a way to get certified on Air Brakes so i can adjust them (having air brakes on your CDL on mean you can INSPECT them, doesn't mean you can adjust them) i found a few interesting sources. One being Bendex hosting a three day class (limited locations, and they move from state to state), and this online training, google "virtual risk airbrakes and it should be the first link. I wasn't sure if i could post a like to a website that wanted you to buy things. The training isn't free. The only thing free on there is the practice test. But i'm going to keep checking around, maybe i can do it at the local VoTech.
