I put new drive axle linings on my 2000 Freightliner Classic not long ago and they are still like new at the top. But at the ends they are almost gone. What parts are wearing in the system to cause this so fast?? I am a very conservative driver and go easy on my truck since I pay for everything.
Brake lining wear??

Which ends (cam or anchor pin)? My guess is excessive cam/cam bushing wear or worn anchor pins. Oversized drums with new linings may do that as well. 16.5" drum is worn out when it reaches 16.620". Another thing I have seen was a guy replaced his cam tubes on his trailer but welded them on all wonky so the shoes didn't apply correctly. A bent cam tube would likely have the same effect.

They are worn at both ends of the linings. But hardly at all in the center.
I guess I thought the installer could do better than this. Shouldn't the mechanic be able to see if parts are needed to prevent this? Now I need to re-line all 4 of these. -
Run your finger inside drum in empty space between brake shoes to see if you can feel a ridge or feels like side of a frying pan, at end of drum, are both shoes wearing the same way?

I will check that tomorrow. Thanks

Are the shoes the correct ones.
BoxCarKidd and areelius Thank this.
