I just bought a 95 freightliner FLD not running and towed it home. Got it running but the brakes are stuck, it wont roll. The truck builds pressure air and leaks from the secondary air system but holds in operating range while running. The hand valve will engage. But the brake pedal doesnt work, it has no pressure and does nothing. I checked the brake pedal linkage and it is connected. Ive also noticed the brake lights are stuck on. What should I look for? Im thinking I need to look at the foot pedal air valve although Im not sure how it works or what lines do what. This attached picture shows the pedal valve.

Bet you the pedal is stuck on the floor or is at least partially applied.

Check the plunger beneath the pedal, can almost guarantee that's your problem, dirt and moisture gets in there and binds up. Take it out clean it up lube it up and see if it solves your problem.

Common to the FLD. On the firewall is the plunger that gets pushed in by your brake pedal. You need to take it apart and then get something to tap to plunger free. You can clean it and the bore up or buy new parts. When I cleaned mine up I always put a little anti-sieze compound on the plunger. It seemed to need it done again after a few years and seemed to only start screwing up during real cold temps.

Indeed it was a problem with the plunger as kemosabi49 said. Somebody had previously greased it which was now cement. I sanded everything smooth and this worked, the brakes released and the truck drives. Thanks.
xsetra and Rideandrepair Thank this.
